Well THAT was a huge disappointment ! Our movie experience was totally different :( It seems I {or Netflix} screwed up and sent me Battle OF Los Ageles NOT Battle:Los Angeles... We have seen this one on the SYFY channel several months back, and while its worth a view if you enjoy the occasional bad SYFY channel movie like we do, I was stoked to see the GOOD one. I just ordered a used one from Amazon for $11.98. I was a bit suspicious at the beginning with the Asylum previews for Crocosaurus and other strange ones...then at beginning of the movie with the 'CGI'.

DTS:

These are indeed two separate films -- and that chart that was provided on the previous page of this thread documenting the sonic wavelengths of the audio doesn't correspond, according to the title preceeding the charts, to BATTLE: LOS ANGELES, which I reviewed here; it seems it's for a BATTLE FOR LOS ANGELES or BATTLE OF LOS ANGELES as you seemed to view.

At any rate, my results with the audio track on the BD for B:LA doesn't seem to be matching up with everyone else's, as I felt it could have been a wee hotter in the LFE...

Let me know what you thought when you get the correct disc to watch (this is why I hate Netflix).

That's not what the labeling of the images/graphs noted -- regardless, it's curious that I didn't find the same regarding the LFE on the title we're discussing in this thread, based on my review. Then again, I do need a new sub...

Badly.

Or the guy just put an extra word in the title. Easy to put Battle for Los Angeles when the title is Battle: Los Angeles. They are not graphs of the corny low budget Battle of Los Angeles.

Also, it doesn't matter how hot the guy runs his bass - those aren't spl graphs.

Here's another one:

This movie worked my receiver so hard, it shut down. So, while this movie may give the subs a workout, it also has a lot of mid range bass over 80Hz as well.

Okay; fair enough...but I was merely pointing out the fact that it seemed unclear as to which film he was referencing. It's true that he could have put an extra word in the title; the intention because of this confusion was unclear.

I found a lack of tactile, low-reaching sub bass slam in this soundtrack, as I've stated, but, again, I definitely need to obtain a new sub. That said, there are plenty of other soundtracks that shake my room with the sub I have at the same -- or lower -- master volume levels, thus leading me to believe that Battle: L.A. just didn't have extreme low frequency LFE wallop.

Wow, Jay -- your receiver actually shut off? What AVR are you running?

I found the track to have bass in the midrange category as well, not so much in the ultra low tactile region. My mains are crossed over at 60Hz, and there was a lot of bass information slamming through the woofers of these towers, but not a lot of ultra low material going to the sub.

Watched this last night, and it was entertaining and loud. Started the volume at -2 because I was a bit nervous to what to expect...but cranked it to 0 about mid way to finish off the movie. Definitely gave all the speakers a work out and especially the Ultra :D . And I think I heard a few new vibration/rattles too.

I run an Onkyo TXSR805 hooked up to a 7.2 setup with Polk Audio LSi speakers which are all 4 ohms, and the volume was set to -2.

So (7) 4 ohm speakers being pushed near reference levels all at once for a long period of time = protect mode for an Onkyo TXSR805.

Ahhh -- okay. LSi's, huh? Yeah, they're tough to drive from what I've heard and read. I'm running RTi12's as mains, with a TX-SR605, but I've never had it cranked as loud as you did on your 805 (my AVR doesn't have a "relative" scale anyway, just "absolute" which puts the volume from 0 to 99, depending on how speakers are calibrated).

How do you like the 805? Does it push enough volume for you? I'm thinking of upgrading my 605 sooner or later to get some more power to my RTi12's, and I'd like to stick with Onkyo. Is the AVR 4 ohm stable?

Well my room is like 30'x10' and it pumps those speakers hard enough in that space that reference level is too loud. While it HAS been 4-ohm stable for 2 years now, the stress of Battle LA caused it to go into protect. It was fine once I lowered the volume (from -2 to -3). So, there is a limit to how much juice it can throw out at once.

When I bought all the LSi's I actually bought enough for an 11.2 setup (I bought 4 LSi 7's for the presence speakers). So while the 805 has been good to me, its not something I plan on holding onto because it won't support the additional speakers.

So, I think it's a good little receiver, but I think there definitely are better ones.

I don't mind waiting for movies from netflix, once they have them in stock they come in one day,

for $10 a month I am happy with NF,

and I thought there was plenty of low end bass and punch, the bass sounded great on my system,I enjoyed it a lot.
