denon AVC3800 or ONKYO TX-SR600???

hi guys..need help..
i looking for cheap amp
which one is better?
denon AVC3800 or ONKYO TX-SR600

I'm leaning toward the ONKYO. The only thing to watch out for is to adjust the levels carefully. When all the levels are the same or close, the main channels have a tendency to play quite loud and "drown out" the subwoofer. Other than that, ONKYOS tend to be very simple to set up and operate. I've always like their general sound quality.

I agree, I would pick a Denon over a comparable Onkyo. Right now, I own a Yamaha receiver and am very happy with it. I currently don't own any Denon gear, but have a couple of old Onkyo CD changers that I like very much. So I am not a Denon fanboy, but they make solid products, and I prefer their A/V receivers to Onkyo A/V receivers.

Yes, it is a very good idea to get a newer model. I would not consider buying an A/V receiver without decoding for the formats on BD.

Came across this thread and it was a bit of a head scratcher too...

The TX-SR600 is a good many years old now (I still own mine from my first surround system) so I assume the OP is looking used?

Still -- the 600 NEVER gave me any issues, and had survived a cross country move after sitting in 120+ degree heat in a garage for well over a year, and it's STILL going in a gym system. I don't know what the second poster was talking about with regard to "drowned out levels," but this never occurred with my 600. I would recommend it if you're looking used and don't need decoding for the Blu-ray lossless formats (the 600 will do Dolby Digital EX and DTS ES and offers six amp channels).

I agree, I had several bad phone calls when dealing with Onkyo AVR problems(TX-SR-805) . Denon or Yamaha . I have not had any issues with any of my Yamaha AVR. I also do not purchase the entry level units either. My Brother has never had any issues with his Denon either. Not to say they are perfect you can a get a lemon from any brand.

I have read and heard from some people in the industry -- now of course take this as you will -- that Denon's latest crop of AVRs are making wildly outrageous power claims yet the power supplies are shrinking and not coming remotely close to rated power specs. I was advised to stay away from Denon right now, but again, it's just what I heard.

When I first entered the hobby, I was advised that Denon and Onkyo were the two brands to consider solely when choosing an AVR.
