I have a pair of B&W DM601 S2 speakers. I am looking to buy some wires for them. Any recommendation? And how do I go about selecting the right speakers wires for speakers in general?

You can get good basic speaker wire at Lowes or Home Depot. Just look in the audio/phone/computer wire section and go for a roll of any copper wire between 12 - 16 gauge. The longer the run, the lower the gauge number, but 16 gauge is rated as fine for up to 50 feet.

If you choose, you can get terminators", either banana plugs, spade lugs or pin connectors there as well but bare wire will work fine. Just make sure there are no stray wires that could cause a short. Amps don't like them at all.

To put Mike's mind at ease, you can use the same kind of wire for both the right and left speaker.

Do you currently have any speaker wires or this is a new setup altogether?
If it is new, use the recommended place to buy the lengths you need, 12 ga/ 14 ga.
If you already have some and is long enough, use it. No need for another set for those speakers

This covers a bit about speaker gauge to distance standards...

I would likely wire with at least 14 gauge in any setup, and I would try to wire behind walls if at all possible and practical.

Really though - $15 for 50' of 12 gauge cabling...

I would probably just grab the 12 gauge for that minimal of price difference.

Oh, and I'm a big fan of these banana plugs. The plastic helps to prevent potential shorts, they are well color coded, and the double screw terminal means that the wire is held securely with a solid electrical connection for audio path.

Banana plugs are your friend. They make life easier hooking them speakers to the receiver. ;)

I picked up a lamp cord of 10 feet for $1.50 from home depot to wire my car speakers. Audio signal has been nothing but exceptional.:D
