any opinions or weather or not auto room calibration really makes a huge difference in sound over a set up using a sound meter?
Please help
You can set the levels with the meter. The room calibration will do a good job of setting distance as it is different from the measured distance because of delays in the speakers.
However you have to take frequency response correction with a big grain of salt.
Audyssey on my unit always sets an HF rise, which makes the rig sound bad. So I have to over ride that, and cancel it.
I think the problem is that there should be an HF loss with distance. The ear expects that. Microphones are much closer than a listening position. However, when you sit at a distance form the speakers, there is the appropriate HF loss essential to realistic reproduction. Audyssey corrects for this and is in fact a quality spoiler. I suspect YPAO is the same.
