The perfect room

We are looking at a new house and the one we saw today had a special room all for me(or i hope) I am kinda curious though about the higher ceilings in the room. How am I going to make the room acoustically sound? Are there any tips people would give out? Where have you screwed up, what would you do different now?

Also, can someone recommend some reasonable good speaker wire for my new room in which I will eventually get? I am just going to be starting new and wanna do it right.

After reading some more, do I need to double up on my drywall? Is quiet rock that much better? Is it expensive? I'm willing to do what ever it takes to make my stuff sound great.

Quiet rock is for decreasing sound transmission to other rooms more than in-room treatment, although it will have a direct affect. Read the threads about room treatment here at AudioHolics and you'll find a lot of good info.

Tip 1: Ask a reasonably specific question.
Tip 2: Provide enough information to enable a useful answer.

We need some objective information and context:

What do you mean by "acoustically sound"? ( Soundproof? Reverberant? Anechoic? Diffuse? )
What does "higher ceiling" mean? (cathedral ceiling, double-story flat ceiling, a 9' ceiling?)
What is/are your planned use(s)? (Stereo or Surround? Music, Movies, other?)
Room size, shape, open floorplan or fully enclosed space?

Without the above, you won't get useful answers.



I'm not a mean guy; I 'just hate seeing threads spend a page or two figuring out what the question really was. By then, many people with really useful knowledge and experience have moved on to other threads of interest.
