$1000 50" plasma - panasonic only which one

On the hunt for a replacement for my 50" plasma in my bedroom....
Need to upgrade to 1080p

Old 50" 720p / 1080i native th-50ph9uk is going to be retired to the game room for music purposes....

Having compatibility issues and have been heading in this direction for while...

What do you guys suggest...?

if that $1000 is firm then that's the only current model you can get for that price I think.

Last year I picked up a 50" G10 for under $1000 at Best Buy. I had to ask about it though, it wasn't advertised... I went in to buy a 46" and the 50" was actually cheaper...

Last years' models have been gone since late last year. The S30 is a good model, unless you want to use the THX setting, which it doesn't have. I installed one and it's very nice, although BB has the VT30 fro not much more. Even if you never watch anything in 3D, the screen responds faster to the signal, which is not only necessary for 3D, but it makes it even better for 2D. Also, they made the bottom edge straight instead of that goofy curve, which makes it impossible to look good when it's recessed.

BB will have it for close to the same price- they are Panasonic's biggest customer, after all.

Don't get the S30. If you look at the thread on AVS forums all the owners are complaining of a washed out picture and some other issues. It seems the upgraded panel is the ST30 makes a big difference.

Just food for thought.

Thanks for that - I wasn't planning on going bottom of the barrel, It was going to be the ST or possibly even the GT... Just sold the Submersive - so the funds are easily there to pull the trigger on whatever looks to be the best option.

I'll have to take a drive over to BB and see what they got goin.... thanks highfigh....

Pulled the trigger on a 50GT30 - got it for $1400 shipped - had a gift card with amazon...

Was looking at the 55" but they were more then I wanted to spend...

Will do, had to upgrade to 1080p with the streàaming from the server has started to become the weakest link. My th50huk has been a great screen for a long time but 720p native has become a huge drawback. So it was finally time.

Cool man glad you upgraded...this should improve your experience greatly as we were having some issues with your TV handshaking with the HTPC properly.

I will have to come over and calibrate the video section of those HTPC's as I found mine to be a bit off.
