I had a pioneer dvd player that worked great for a long time,it played dvd's instantly,

I wanted to go to br,so I pickup a Pioneer BDP-320 player, now I understand that br's take longer to initially load(from what I have read),

this player starts maybe 70% of the br's normally(still pretty slow though),

but 30% or so seem to take forever,or not start at all, sometimes if I restart the disc a couple times it finally goes, past the "studio logo stuff",

one br did'nt play at all no matter what I tried, and I returned it and got another br in exchange that did'nt play either,so I got the dvd instead and that played great,(it was "night and Day")

it plays dvd's instantly, there are no other performance issues,

I get all my discs from netflix and I have the latest firmware on the 320,(I have it wired to my router)

is this normal for blu-ray ? is this normal for a pioneer br player ?

I wouldn't say it's normal for BR players in general. However, I've no experience with that model, only my ps3 (all discs have loaded without issue), my sister's sharp, and my grandfather's sony. I don't know their particular model numbers but I haven't had any issues using them. Discs do load fairly slow in them though.

Your BD player is no good. It should play all discs, of not exchange it, and see if another works better, of not change brands.

BD discs load slower as there is so much more information to load.

That's happened in the past with my OPPO. At that time it was in need firmware upgrade. Have you downloaded the latest firmware ?

If it is a new BDP-320 it is definitely not normal. My 320 plays any BR disc I threw at it. In fact it played one that my PS3 could not. The 320 is top notch in upscaling DVD also. You should exchange it for another one if you still could or sent it back to Pioneer for repair if it is under warranty. I think the 320 is going to be a collector item as it is among the last couple of BDP that were truly made by Pioneer.

Sorry about that.....as you both know, I didn't read the last two lines of the OP.:D

I've noticed certain Blu-Rays never play; one I have trouble with is Date Night w/ Steve Carell and Tina Fey. I've updated firmware and made two attempts about a month apart.
Seems with a disk's copy protection and the HDCP associated with HDMI it's created more ways in which your electronics could fail to work properly with your TV. Big surprise, the consumer gets the short end of the stick again.
