earphones needed for the gym

I'm looking to get a new pair of earphones or earbuds to wear at the gym. I've now burned through 3 pairs in less than a year due to cheap wires and now only sound comes out of 1 speaker.

I keep my ipod in my pocket so that's part of the issue. I've tried using an arm band but those all seem to be too small and are suited for the guys with the #2 pencil arms.

Any recommendations? I've read some of the older threads about the sound quality but didn't see much mention of the quality of the wires.

I have a friend who lives every spare moment of daylight on his mountain bike. He went through many many headphones before settling on the Philips SHS3201/28. He has more problems with iPod shuttles crapping out from sweat. These head phones hold up pretty well.

They are sold on line, but you can pick them up at Rite-Aid for around $10. Sound quality is pretty good - good enough for the gym or for doing yard work (that what I use mine for).

I have owned a pair of Sennheiser CX-300's for years and they still work great. I use them at the gym and I keep my Android phone in my pocket. the wire is long enough to pull through my shirt and the asymmetrical design makes it easy to pull the right earbud wire around the back of my neck and keep it out of the way.

I'm not a big fan of headphones because of the cord and the fact that, unless they're pretty pricey, they aren't great. I did get a set of Pioneer ear buds recently and they're pretty decent, even at $25 retail. I was selling cassette and radio Walkmans when they first came out and the ear buds back then sucked. These, I like. Much better sounding.

I've used some $100+ Sennheiser ear buds for a long time (4+ years and still have them but don't recall the model number) and they have held up well to sweat, heat, friction etc. I forgot to bring them with me over here to Korea so I picked up some $17 JVC Air Cushions and really find them comfortable and very comparable in sound quality to the much more expensive Sennheisers. I don't think they will last as long but for $17....

I'm a heavy-footed runner and I don't get any cord noise with either pair.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I just ordered these on ebay and should have sometime early next week. sennheiser cx 300 for $13.65 new includes shipping.

Last night I used the cheap one's that came with my old mp3 player and my ears hurt as they don't seal out the surrounding sounds so I had them cranked and they sound terrible and really tinny.

At $13.65 if they sound decent for listening at the gym and last at least 6 months I'll be happy.

I work out heavily and I run @ least 3-5 miles every two days, I spin for over an hour. I wear hoodies and sweat like a pig.

And honestly the only way I make it all through this type of activity is making me love the music coming of my ear buds from my 6th gen Nano.

I highly recommend checking out the WESC buds!!

I got mine for $20 and best by far in sound, even compared to my $99 bose ear buds. I got mine @ PacSun.

check them out, I really recommend them!!

Additional: Today I lost one of the rubber buds and I called WESC out in CA and the customer service is sending me out a new set of rubber buds (free of charge). I had my buds for over 8-months and no sign of wear. It was my fault for the rubber bud falling off because I tossed them in my pocket and must have popped it off and feel out. But no worries, getting new rubber buds in the mail in a few days. I have the crappy Bose to use until then. :(

Conveniently I have just the solution for you. I work for the ear buds "Zippearz" we are a new business specializing in ear buds for the active audiophile. They are built soley to stay on your ears, with tangle-resistant wiring. Our patened "ear loop" is a one of a kind peice that you won't find in any other set of ear buds. It is a detachable/attachable peice that hooks onto your earbuds and wraps around your ears when you want them to stay in place. They're made of flexible rubber with a wire center for forming and shaping ALL ear sizes. Our sound is great, our prices are even better. We also have an iFit Hoodie you may be interested in. This is a hoodie designed for workouts to hold your ipod and keep the wires from getting in the way. It may or may not be for you, but either way definitely check us out i think you might be interested in giving us a shot.

website is just www(dot)zippearz(dot)com
There you will be able to access our youtube videos with honest customer reviews, and our twitter and facebook as well.

happy hunting, zippearz

I have a pair of Etymotic HF5 headphones that I have used for over a year and love them. I got my old workplace to buy them for everyone in the engineering department for times when we work in loud places such as the room with three large diesel generators running full speed. They have better noise isolation than the best earplugs I have found and sound great. When you have them in with music playing you literally cant hear anything such as someone talking right next to you etc. Super small and light. Infact when i opened the box i thought what the heck I will break these in a week but so far still like new and very comfortable to wear for long periods of time. Not real cheap. Paid around $120 on amazon (well my employer did) ;) for them but worth it I think.

I bought a set of Etymotic MC5's for ~$50 and have been pretty happy with them. Isolation was important for me. They sound nice...a little thin on base but I'm not a base junkie to begin with. Build quality seems good.

ear buds

I am open to suggestions as well. I work out regularly and my experience with ear buds have been terrible. I find once I start really sweating the buds start to slip out of the ear.

I try not to sweat so :D ...I'm no help with if they stay put under heavy sweating.
