1st plasma ??

Hello all
Just got my 1st plasma (and first new TV in 20 years!). I got the LG 32PC5RV the "first" 32" plasma. Haven't even had time to install it yet (12hr night shifts, yay!). But looking through the instruction manual have a couple questions. I hate this about manuals, it lists all the functions but doesn't tell you anything about them.

In the OSD section about differant adjustments. What do these mean???

-color temperature:cool, medium, warm

-XD (LG's picture improving tech) should it be auto or manual? Does it work?

-Advanced: cinema (on or off) ??
Black level (low or high) ??

under Options

-ISM Method: Normal, White wash, Orbiter, Inversion
(I know these are to remove/reduce fixed images from the screen, but which to use, how often, is it an automatic function?)
How easily do images get burned in. For example will watching 4:3 image on a 16:9 burn in the black bars at the sides?

Sorry if these are obvious things most know about but I don't, so any help or pointing me in the direction to find out would be great.

Well I finally got time to get it up and running.
Un-freakin-believeable, this is my first non-CRT display and I am just amazed at the picture. I have seen all kinds of Plasma's and LCD's in the stores but at home with the programs of your choice it is amazing the difference. The colours and vibrancy is amazing (sorry can't think of any other adjectives). This set only has a res. of 480p but playing a DVD (have an LG up converting player) the difference is night and day. Old CRT was a 27" Panasonic Gaoo which I've been more than happy with. Now SD TV on the plasma/widescreen I'm not overly thrilled with, but that isn't because of any short fall of the plasma and I will get use to it. Any tips, tricks, or info on plasma ownership appreciated.

Now a few questions…

How often should the screen cleaner be used, can you over do it, what is the difference on types (ISM Method: Normal, White wash, Orbiter, Inversion ).

The LG specs say this will only do 480p res. but when I set the DVD player to 760p or 1080i the plasma display says it's at those resolutions, is it?

Anyone with an LG does your Simplink thing work? Have a new LG DVD and when I try to use the Simplink it just says to "check the connection" (hooked up with HDMI and works okay for picture so would think the connection is okay).

Now I also have a Sony DG510 with HDMI pass through is there really any point to running the DVD through it as you still need to have a digital sound cable hooked up for surround sound?

These refer to the color temperature. Cool would be more bluish, Medium is probably neutral (near the ideal of 6500K), and Warm would be more reddish. The thing is that all TVs are different and unless you've actually measured the color temp or read a review where it was measured, you have no idea of the actual difference between the modes.

Who knows what that refers to. Have to try it in various settings to see if it makes any difference to your eyes.

Most likely this refers to 'fim mode'. Film is 24 frames per second and this mode would attempt to reduce artifacts from showing 24 fps film at 30 or 60 Hz native rate of the panel. Again have to try it to see if it makes a difference.

No idea but they sound like techniques to reduce the possibility of burn-in (where an image is permanently retained - like stock tickers or channel logos). They are just different techniques to achieve the same objective and there is probably no way to tell which is the most effective.

That's how I felt when I got mine too. Just unbelieveable the difference in PQ going from a SD CRT to a nice HDTV. Congrats!

I noticed it too. This thread is from 2007. In fact, 3D plasma tv's are available in the market now.
