Hi,
I am moving into my new home and I have a family room which will be having my HT system in it. I will be doing following things:
1) Paint room relatively dark with flat paint. Any color suggestions? Right now I am at a grey'ish color.
2) Wall mount my LED TV. Any tips/things to watch out for as I will be doing self installation.
3) I will be wall mounting my front and center channel. Will be trying to cut hole through wall to make sure it is neat installation. Any advice on speaker placement?
4) Should I wall mount or use speaker stand? I only ask this because the sofa will be against back wall and there is no wall on one side as it opens in kitchen. So the speaker has to be wall mounted exactly opposite to front speakers. So should I place them facing front or tilt'ed and at what height? I know recommended is just above ear level but if they are that low, then they will hit hands when you stretch sitting on sofa.
5) I will be wiring speakers under the carpet along the edge of room because there is no attic or basement above/below living room. Any tips oh concealing them?
Will post picks once done.
Thanks

With an LED TV, I'm not sure if paint colour is all that important. If you regularly watch with the lights off, a darker colour could reduce wall reflections though. Wait for more opinions before accepting mine.
What size is your TV and how much does it weigh? Regardless, insure that the wall mount screws go into the wall studs - you don't want your new TV falling off the wall.

Here's an article that may be some help to you:

I'm a little confused about your speaker placement intentions.

Are your front speakers
in-wall speakers? Or, are they bookshelf speakers and you want to create in-wall shelves for them? If it's the later, I would advise against that. Bookshelf and tower speakers are designed to be free-standing, away from walls. Putting such speakers in a wall shelf will create havoc with the frequency response and you will probably have boomy mid-upper bass. Here are several guides to speaker placement:

Hope that helps.
