Any Canadians on here ever order a sub from the US? If so, how much brokerage did you pay on a $1100.00 sub weighing roughly 100lbs?

Thanks,

R

Well, for reference, I ordered a $450 65lb sub driver from the states, went to the Calgary customs office myself, and i think she must have not known what she was doing because I got out with $24 in GST for a made in china loudspeaker

had I gone through UPS, i would have paid around $135

OTOH, bringing it in via the border is sure to get you hit with duties... those guys not fun.

The way I understand it is...you'll likley be paying shipping charges from point of purchase to our border, some ID could also include the HST in that price. Once it's handled on our side the courier will likely act a broker. He'll likely include their shipping fees(extra at your expense) and would apply HST if applicable...duty would only apply if products are not US made. I've heard others acting as their your own agents and making arrangments for pick up(real PITA...if you ask me but saves a few bucks) or if your reside close to the American border you could likely ship to a US zip and arrange for pick up there only paying 13% HST and saving the added shipping charges YOU WILL INCUR if you buy from any US based ID supplier. All told factoring everything in your looking at ~$1400.00 for a ~1000.00 ID sub woofer...IMO.

I live in Alberta, we don't have HST. I believe we are the only province not to have a provincial tax. We just pay GST, thats it.

I emailed a couple companies in the US and asked for a break down in cost including the brokerage. I will post an update when I get an answer.

I've tried to purchase a few expensive electronics from the states and it really isn't worth it. You really get bent over at the border.

I've ordered not speakers but a $1200 laptop and the brokerage for that was around $500 for UPS shipping so get ready to be ripped off if you are going to import from the States.

Your tax situation differs from Ontario residents but I'd guess the brokerage fees include some sort of tax(likely not the HST?) and omit any shipping charges to your door? Btw...Sputter had dual VTF15's shipped and like he said, "it ain't cheap"...;):).

Its $1350.00 US or $1314.00 Canadian shipped to my door. I'm not sure what is so hard to understand about that?

So HSU's ULS 15 is $1099.00 plus shipping, brokerage and any taxes total $1314.00 to my door.

This is now getting useful. I recently found this place on bing and thought I would personally say well done.
A Very interesting post very much appreciated specifically with what i am seeking to perform.

Does someone have any more reading? Where is the best place to start here on this website?

FYI....shipping to Canada or more specifically Onatrio. I just received a pr. speakers from Ascend Acoustics:D. If you factor in the cost of the actual speaker + NrT upgrade and shipping via UPS...and you inculde the HST@ 13%( some Provinces you only pay ~5% pst...lucky sob's) my brokerage fees cost an additional $229.00 cdn which did factor in my 13%hst...by my calulation that was about $90.00 in added brokerage fees....just to set the record straight
