No but honestly another distro you might like that is very fast is FreeBSD, it has "ports" which is amazing as it is applications from basically every other distro ported into FreeBSD.

Hmm I thought OS X's Mach kernel was from Freebsd? Is it not? or was it and not any more?

Ok I wiped OpenSuse and I am now trying Mint Linux as someone suggested earlier. Yes I know it is based off of Ubuntu but this does seem to be as was mentioned Ubuntu done right. So far I like it a lot. It's fast, easy to configure and looks nice.

On a side note; I am getting one of the new quad core iMacs in a few months so this is just a temporary fix and something to play with.

Ever since i spent two months failing to get HDMI audio working properly with my laptop, I've been on windows. Though i do have my mom's desktop on it... It truly is perfect for an older computer used strictly for browsing and word proc.

I think I installed xubuntu on her comp, and lubuntu on a friend of mine's comp... total barebones computer users.

My longest run with linux was when I ran Red Hat a while. I think as you define your goals with a given computer, you really learn which OS is gonna make the job least irritating.

for non linux OSes i ran BeOS for a while when i was 13. =_=;;;

Yeah its a derivation of *BSD AFAIK. But I usually do a full wipe of any Apple related knowledge that I have once a month.

I set up one for my sister two weeks ago. I must admit the build quality on them is top notch and pretty much unmatched in the industry. I am not saying that because I like macs but because I have never seen a computer built so well. There are some others that are nice but not as nice. It figures they would all go quad core just two weeks after she bought hers, but she does not do much but surf and load family photos.

With the beautiful screens, quad cores, Thunderbolt, wireless aluminum keyboard, gesture mouse they are a hell of a deal at 1199.

Anyway, the Mint Linux is pretty good, and I like it so far. Like I have said in the past. If were not for a few apps, Aperture, imovie, final cut express, iweb I would probably use a Linux box as my main computer.
