GO-NAD!

GO-NAD!

Audioholic Warlord
My daughter is 8 and wants a dog so bad, that it's breaking my heart. The problem is, my wife and I both work, so there are several hours of the day when a dog would be left alone in the house, which I think would be cruel. On top of that, we recently had our hardwood floors re-finished, which I'm afraid a dog's toenails will trash.

It's real dilemma, because whenever we visit her grandparents, who have a couple of dogs, she comes home crying! It's killing me, I tells ya!:(

The longest I have ever went without a dog is 6 months and that was after all 3 of my Boxers died in the same year. It took me time to get over that and I didn't want to go through the heartbreak again so I was gun-shy.

Don't worry about the dog being bored, once he has the family all to himself he will love it and he will not miss the other dogs for more than a day or two. (it's likely a she but I am going to stick with calling it a he).

I don't understand people who don't have dogs, something is just wrong with them...
Wow losing 3 in one year must have been tough. I grew up riding and raising horses so we did not have many dogs around. The dogs we had were more hunting dogs so we never had one in the house.

Our daughter is 8 as well.:) We are in a similar situation where we both work all day as well. I do have a place I can keep him outside my office so he will come to work with me for a few weeks until college is out and Lynn will be home for the summer. We are also going to do the invisible fence so he can be outside when we are not around. He doesn't bark so we don't have to worry about him being annoying while we are not at home.

We had no real intention to get one but he was just the right animal at the right time.

I have relented and we now have a new family member.

Everyone meet Fergus:D

Our friends rescued him the day before he was going to be put down. After spending some time with him we decided he would be a good fit for us.

Besides how could you turn these faces down.

That is one happy little girl. He comes home Saturday.:)

Congratulations on the new family member, and I must echo the sentiment as well for the close up pic, that's an awesome shot.

I'm sorry to hear that, I can only imagine what that was like. We have 3 who are getting up there in age, 8-10. One was deathly ill for several weeks last fall before they finally got a correct diagnosis and a cure. It kind of was an eye opener at the time because cancer was an early suspicion so we were trying to prepare ourselves. But if they all 3 went that close together it would be devastating.

My wife was a cat person, but I'm allergic to them so when she moved in the cats did not follow. Eventually we decided to get a dog though she had never had one before, and now she is as much of a dog person as you will find.
Oh, and she's allergic to dogs (she didn't realize that until after we had them and she finally did some allergy testing...oops).
