I probably have another year before I have enough $ to upgrade to some good speakers, but would it be worthwhile for me to upgrade the drivers in my floorstanding speakers as a temporary solution?

the speakers I have is : yamaha ns7390

I figured any cheap speakers would probably rival the sq of the driver in this? if possible, please point me to the right direction...thanx

You could, but it probably won't have the results you are hoping for. When speaker systems are designed, even inexpensive ones, they are designed so that it brings out the best of the three main components: The crossover, the bass driver, and the enclosure size/dimensions and possibly the port (hole). If they don't match, bass performance will suffer big time.

So, you COULD replace the bass drivers but the odds of finding a better match than the original design called for is extremely slim. IIWY, I'd just save my money until you can get a better pair.

Think of a speaker as one functional system - like a person's circulatory system. It's fully functional when the correct parts are in it, but when you try to put a random different part in, you're not upgrading it. You're really just bringing out the antibodies and making them react.

Likewise, adding a different driver means that the crossover, which makes drivers cohesively work together, is still giving the same signal, but to a totally different driver.

Here's a really good article on this:

Check out Craigslist for a better set than you have that wont break the bank and sell yours to help offset the upgrade. Then repeat, and again.

Easy way to slowly upgrade.

I use to play that game of changing out the driver for a new one.
Not once did it work right. It tends to be off balance and it will
be out of phase some what. The crossover is a big deal.
You also, need to check some pawn shops - Hang in there.

Being restless is not easy - Keep watch on Craiglist and Pawn Shops.
Always, try to get the best that you can afford.

Alrite guys, thanx for all your advice. I was able to upgrade my loudspeakers w/o skimming off the "upgrade money".

zieg- i was going to go after that boston acoustic, but it was already sold when i got in touch w/ the guy

thejknight- i basically did what you mentioned. thanx

Basically i was able to sell my old loudspeaker for 60$, and bought a pair of these for 80$:

I think it was a great profit for me, and am quite satisfied with it for now. I'm probably more impressed because of the value i got it for...
