2nd EP2500

so, i hooked up the 2nd amp i now have to my subs. i mono'd em both.

the result was near crushing ! it was not simply a +3db increase (in my guesstimation) . i used to run at +5ish and the dials at 50-60%.
i had to turn it down to -6 and the dials at 10%. and i still had more impact
and i heard rattles that i never heard before. on top of rattles that i had previously eliminated. it was so insane that i was laughing.

i know i don't need a 2nd amp. i bought this one to use when i get a house.
i hope to get (as it stands now) 2 LMS Ultra 5400's.

I have mine in stereo running my two Titanic builds. Gains are litterly about 1/3 up and bass is unreal on movies.

Side question about gain controls. Do they turn down the amp or are they just adjusting how sensitive the inputs are? My understanding is the latter but I have never been sure.

They simply attenuate the input sensitivity. This is useful in PA application to get your noise floor low (by forcing the line level electronics to output a signal much stronger than the noise).

So your not limiting your amps output power when you have to lower the gains correct?

To get a 75db level with both subs and keep my level adjustments with my receiver to within +/- 3 or 4 the gains have to be very low on my EP2500. I suspect this is because I am going from RCA to XLR, and the difference between pro and consumer output levels.

You aren't on the :amp: end but your receiver's pre-outs might start to clip before they drive the amp to full power...

Good to know. Output on the Onkyo pre outs is 4v so I think I am good there, but I can see where it could be an issue with some receivers.

yeah, i saw that. supposedly just on the neodymium stuff. but i am sure the other stuff will have some kind of increase.

everything is going up these days. except the pay check.
