Hello... I don't know whether this is the right section but I'll post this here since bass and subwoofers will be important in this discussion :p

I am a newbie in the audio sector, I have close to no technical knowledge but I am a basshead I can say, I love bass.

I want to set up a great system in my house (possibly it should be able to be connected to a pc :D), and the bass needs to shake windows, a lot, and I want at least 4 neighbours to fill a noise complaint.

I just know some car audio brands, one of my friends is a car audio fan and I spend a lot of time in his car getting my ribcage shaken by his ground zero, that's the kind of thing I want in my house :D

My budget is about 1400$. Where can I start? Ideas?

Thanks in advance

It sounds like you are after sheer output. I think you will want a ported sub. For your budget, I would look at the Rythmik FV15HP or the Elemental Designs A7-350. Either one should get you insane SPL, and if driven hard enough, will certainly draw noise complaints. There is also this thing which would be a real monster as well.

There is also a DIY version of this thing, that would offer even greater SPL than the above monsters. The DIY kit should come in shipped at under 1400, here is how to get some info on that. This option is only for the truly insane hardcore bass junkie. Another good kit would be this thing, which is really just an unassembled version of this thing. While not as loud as the above DTS10, it has a much smaller footprint and is not nearly as awkwardly shaped. That would still be a real a$$-kicker though.

you can get complaint worthy bass easily in a house, but,,,

IMO don't compare car audio bass to home theater/music system bass.

it's two totally different worlds IMO

and is your budget $1400 for the bass ? or the entire system ?

This is very true. The bass that comes from a home subwoofer isn't the bump-bump-bump bass that you hear in a car. A good home subwoofer is cleaner and more refined and a whole lot less in your face.

For a single sub, I don't think you can beat DIY.

Since you seem to favor punch and output over deep extension, I recommend a TC Sounds LMS-5100 Pro powered by a Behringer EP2500 in about 7.5 cu ft tuned to 34hz

1400 just for the bass btw.
Well if you've got $1,400 to spend on a sub and you have any tools or woodworking ability, you can get pretty crazy with the DIY route.

Get yourself a decent sub and a Behringer EP4000 to run it and you can blow the windows out of your place.

Perhaps someone should be asking what size is the room this BASS should be going in - L x W x H = Cu Ft

Is it open to other area's ? Or a closed off room...?

Until that information is determined I don't think just throwing out the most popular subs is giving viable information.

What other equipment are you running, receiver / speakers ?

How loud do you like to listen, sounds like pretty loud if your talking about your buddies car shaking your eyeballs loose... ;)

Per the DTS10 recommendation, you should know it's at least 280 lbs, 5' long, and that I feel quite confident that in can cause structural damage. I would not try to worry about the ability of shaking windows with this, I'd worry about the cost of replacing windows with this.

With these DIY variations, the sub is not EQ'd by the manufacturer, so there will be a learning curve there for sure. However, this is not a bad thing, as it would be ideal to mate the EQ for the particular room and position no matter what the sub. It's just that the need is more pronounced with these. The prebuilt version of the DTS10 is something like +3x more expensive.

You can use them as a riser too. That's how the nicknames of Spud or Super Spud came about, like potato or specifically "couch potato".
