Hello all, first off thank you for taking the time to check this out; I'm really getting stumped on where to place the speakers in our basement for the best possible sound experience while at the bar, playing a game of pool, or just hanging out.

Any help you provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

I've attached the sketch for my basement, along with the labeled sections. The outlined Red area is our entertainment space which I'm looking to place speakers in. I'm just struggling of where to put speakers and wether to use wall or ceiling speakers.

Again thank you so much for taking the time to check this out!

Nope; I have 100% access to everything right now so wiring anywhere isn't a problem.

what speakers do you have ?

in a "hang out" area like that. where stereo imaging isn't all that important. i really like them in the ceiling corners. lots of bars i have been too, have em that way. and they work out VERY NICELY !

but you have a lot of options.

I haven't picked up speakers or a receiver yet so options are wide open; would you have any recommendations on what would be best?

Thank you very much!

what would be best = what YOU like, is what would be best.

but it really depends on many things :
how loud you want to play them.
where they will be.
are the 2 biggest issues.

how high is the ceiling ?

don't need to have it to loud; casual listening level.

8' ceilings, placing them in the corners sounds like a great idea. Really they are there to add an ambience in the room rather than a surround sound setup, so something which simply provides a nice sound which doesn't drown out talk would be perfect.

Thank you so much!

ok, this is easy.

get 2 8" 2 ways. put em on shelves. one on each end of the bar. about 6-12"s down from the ceiling and about 8' apart.

they will do what you want better than what you expect.

i used to go to this bar that had some older bose 201 type speakers by the pool table. this was 15+ years ago. mounted up in the ceiling corners. i was really suprised at how loud and good they sounded.

If you can swing it, BG Radia inwalls would be a novel way to get stunning sound and variety of speaker placement.

I would go with separate processor and amplifier- Look at the integra DHC-80.1 or 80.2, backed by an Arcam p1000 multi channel amp. Not overly expensive and amazing quality. This will let you change the processor later if needed but retain quality amplification for your speakers. Although once you own the 80.1 or 80.2 you'll never want to let go of it :D - Check audiogon or ebay for pre-owned units.
