I have a Harmon/Kardon (AVR-130) amp and a Cerwin Vega (CLS-12S) sub.

I purchased the sub as a floor model really CHEAP!!

When I turn the amp on and start and the sound the sub will take a while to kick in. Once it is on and working, it sounds great. After a while it seems to shut off with the sound either lowd or low. It also seems to do it allot when its on low volume the bass in the song it cuts out. It also get hot, and yes there is allot of air space for overheating.

It doesn't matter what settings I have the amp at or the control knobs on the back of the sub, it just keeps shutting off. I understand that they do that to prevent overheating and damage, but it seems to happen allot. Too much........

I know other poeple with Cerwin Vega Speakers and they seem to sound great withoout sutting off and on.

I'm not an exspert thats why I'm posting. Any solutions?

I would have posted the url's but.............

Maybe that's why it was really CHEAP. Defective perhaps? Under warrantee? By the way, while I think Cerwin Vegas may sound OK, I don't think they could be catagorized as sounding graet!

Your sub is Auto-On Sensing. If it has On-Auto-Off switch set it to On. That will prevent it from cutting out. You may need to manually turn it off when not in use as it may remain rather warm from just being on.

Another potential fix is to adjust the subs level in your receiver up and then turn the knob on your sub down to compensate. That way the signal from the AVR is amplified and the sub can pick up the signal with greater ease.
