Google Chrome and Audioholics

Are there any other Chrome users here? I switched to it for my main browser a while ago because Firefox would get bogged down when I left a Facebook tab open. I'm currently running the most recent Chromium, the unbranded version but have used the branded Google Chrome as well and had the same complaint.

My complaint is that when I click on a forum or topic link or back arrow to the forums list, the page fails to load. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to when it happens but I have to hit stop and reload. Otherwise I just see the Audioholics logo at the top and a gray screen.

I don't see this problem anywhere else including other BB Forum sites like Tech Talk. Disabling plugins has no effect on the behavior. Is it just me or has anyone else had this problem?

Not here,
I'm using latest Chrome (Stable) - no issues
Go to Tools/About Google Chrome - this forces Chrome to check for updates if for any reason background update service was not functional.

Also Firefox 4 stable is really good too (had memory issues with Beta, but it seems to be good now)

I've been using Chrome for the last two-three months and occasionally I will get an "unable to load page" message but it doesn't seem isolated to AH.

It seems to be a good browser but I keep going back to Safari after using Firefox or Chrome. It's laid out better to me. Funny how the latest Firefox and Chrome from the start copied the look of Safari. All three are excellent browsers, and it just boils down to preference I think at this point.

It's funny how come everyone else (Chrome,FF) "copied" from Safari, but everyone else work, while Safari doesn't

That stuff don't mean crap for the home user. I have never been hacked at home. Safari is an excellent browser and works just fine. Hell the Chrome hacker did not even show up so it was hardly a fair contest:rolleyes:

My point is proven in the article. There is nothing wrong with Safari, and your just grasping at nothing. Your anti Apple bias is showing again:)

"The time taken to develop working exploits shows that operating system-level protections like DEP and ASLR are useful tools. Finding security flaws in the browser is one thing; turning it into a useful attack that will succeed on up-to-date systems is quite another."

You also notice how when issues are found Apple and Google fixed them and microshaft ignored them? That to me is more telling than anything.

Your attempt to goat me into an Apple vs something other than Apple war failed big time. All you did was prove that a browser can be hacked. Umm yeah so what? The article that you posted showed that Apple headed the attacks and fixed the issues. Good for them. You did not prove Chrome or FF was better, faster or more stable. You loose:p

Well, you want to go full throttle nerd rage on me - you got it:
Safari - the only "so called modern" web browser to lack :
Hardware acceleration
Plugin support,including adblocker (http://www.apple.com/safari/download/plugins.html - doesn't count)
Bookmarks sync - Firefox and Chrome already doing it

But the bottom line ,I don't have Mac pc and maybe Safari 5 is somewhat decent on it, but I'll stick on using windows and lets be honest ALL apple software for windows are just POS.

On Windows box, Chrome imo is still the best all around browser, closely followed by FF4. IE9 made huge leap with the newest version, so if you love IE for any reason and have vista/7 - you must update to ie9 asap

I've tried switching from Opera to FF and Chrome, I just can't do it. Opera's super customizable speed dial is just too awesome a feature to give up.

There you go again being wrong. You have to stop doing that its begining to look bad:)

On a mac Safari is 64 bit and has the improved nitro engine. It doesnt need any hardware acelleration its already fast. Safari 5 added hardware acceleration for windows. http://http://www.apple.com/safari/whats-new.html It does have plugin support they are just not called plugins they are called extensions. These are new for V 5 so there are not as many availble as there are for Firefox to be sure. I suspect over time there will more than enough.http://extensions.apple.com/ There are several ways to keep your bookmarks synched between two computers including sync with mobile me.

If you want to go feature for feature with browsers your going to loose. Safari does a LOT of things native that others would need plugins/extenions to do if you could even find one. You loose again:D

How many of these features do Chrome and FF do or have? http://www.apple.com/safari/features.html

On a PC I would probably use Chrome or FF primarily too. I give you that one. I think. I have not played with Safari much on a PC.

Wasn't that his point?

Maybe you should have told Jim about your recommendation to use Safari only after stating that you assume he is using a Mac like yourself. I never made that assumption, and TBH, I was actually assuming it was a PC.

I don't think BSA is "beginning to look bad".

In fact Jeff, if I had to guess, I bet you're the only Mac user who has posted in this thread so far.

I use a MacBook Pro with Firefox for my work computer. My home computers are all Arch Linux except for one Ubuntu machine that needs to be redone.

For just about everything else, Chromium works flawlessly. It's my goto browser for home use. For work, I can't live without the web developer and Firebug plugins on Firefox. Chrome has some of that but FF is easier when you are trying to debug a web app.

I do like how Firefox 4 looks with the black glass theme:) I am going to play with it a bit. The honest truth is all three are really, really good browsers on the Mac or PC. They are so close it just comes down to personal preference on what you like to use. I just happen to like some of the things that Safari does with OS X that the others don't, but I use the others too. So there you have it.

Lets see, I knew he used a mac and you assumed wrong, That's your opinion, and your wrong the OP uses a mac:D Your on a roll like BSA;)

Remember, BSA started this I said they were all good and I still say that! He just wanted an excuse to trash Apple and Safari, but he did not do his research.

Arch Linux is not Mac, get off your high horse Jeff, c'mon - its not even BSD based. So, yea - I was wrong jliedeka does't use windows, but not Mac at home ether.
I still have plenty of reasons to trash Apple, but I'll keep then for next time ;)

I never said it was a mac and I knew he used a mac because he has stated so in the past. I had no idea where he used it though. I have plenty of reasons to trash Apple too. OS X, Safari, Aperture, Final Cut, iMovie and a whole lot of other software are not among the reasons though:p

Can you tell me in all honesty if you have even used Safari on a mac or PC?

Honestly - I used Safari 4 on Win (a while ago - two years or so) and a Mac (in a past and very recently) - While it was a complete disaster on a pc - on mac it did ran fine, except I didn't particularly liked it and typically used it to download FF 3.x as a first thing I'd do on a mac.. seriously.
Never tried Chrome on Mac, but on Ubuntu it's working fine as far as I can tell...

Slight offtopic....

About Flash:
Steve Jobs could have a point regarding Flash, but honestly 2011 Internet is addicted to it, despite the issues.

Download Safari 5 for windows and try it and report back. I have never been a fan of Flash either.

I'm not a big fan of Flash but at least there is a working plugin for Linux that is up to date.

HTML 5 has video support. The problem is there are three competing video codecs and all the browsers support different ones. I don't know the exact list of who supports what but I know IE and Safari support h.264 but not Ogg Theora and not sure about Google's VP8. Firefox supports Ogg for now. Chrome does or did support h.264 but they can't transfer the licence to packagers. I'm pretty sure Opera doesn't support h.264 due to licensing costs.

So, if you want to put video on the web, Flash is probably the best solution otherwise you need to encode to multiple codecs.

Here is another site I just found with some Safari extensions/plugins that are not on Apples site. There is a port of the Chrome adblock here too which I know will make BSA happy now:p
