I'd also recommend the Ascend Acoustics CBM-170 SE for the front 3 (mains and center) and the HTM-200 for the rears. The Emotiva subs would be a good choice for your budget.

Ascends would do Phish recordings proud.

Both the NHT and Ascend's will be able to provide natural speech/vocals which is very critical to Trey's voice because crappy speakers will bring out sibilance in some Phish recordings.

I'm pretty pumped about the NHT's, plus the Ascends take me a little over budget. So with that, now it's just the sub in question. I've been reading nothing but glowing reviews about the Emotiva 10 & 12. Not much dedicated info out there on the NHT's sub performance other than mentioning it's adequate. Researching this is seriously information overload at its best.

I just want a sub that is gonna rumble me during the explosions of Hurt Locker and at the same time make me think Mike Gordon is in my living room when he drops the Down With Disease phat bass lines.

No - I would skip that one.
Yeah, I've done boatloads more research since then...

Strongly leaning toward the Hsu VTF-1. It has amazing reviews for music and HT, a solid company reputation, and a friendly price point.
