Sit back while I butcher this review. I chose this film because it was the only thing in Redbox BR selections that I hadn't seen that seemed even remotely interesting.
I know the film stars Russel Crow but everybody should rent it to see Brian Dennehy's performance. His character is what being a man is all about. He's got I think two lines, "you alright?" and something like "we should have some coffee". He's a relatively minor character but every time he was on screen I was taking notes and planning to throw my flip flops the f^%& out.
So, the movie: very well done. Another reason I got it was because I figured it would be like Wife Time on steroids and my girl is always watching shows about criminal prosecution of violent offenders. This was like tailor made for her viewing pleasure. It had edge of your seat suspense (for her) and moments of elation with the 'we're gonna make it/we're not going to make it' roller coaster. I was unaffected because I got my how to be unaffected man-lessons from seeing Brian Dennehy on screen for 3 minutes.
There were probably some holes in the mechanics of how to flee a country and how to bust out of prison and how to break into cars but should you need any of that you have to start somewhere and it may as well be here.
The only real let down was that Crowe didn't do that single mom. She was pretty hot.
