I saw this tonight and it's pretty good. Lots of humor and overdone action that works with the story. Don't expect to be enlightened, but do expect to be entertained if you don't mind lots of gratuitous violence. I'm not familiar with the graphic novel, but liked the movie. It was a double thrill because it marked the reopening of our fine neighborhood classic Metropolis styled movie palace. The famed Senator Theater (a sacred cause for theater historians and formerly a top 10 endangered building) with its great projector and 100,000 watt sound system is now open again, with renovations underway. Dust and rubble is around, but nobody cared.

I went with the wife and another couple. All four of us loved it.

This one is also on my must see list. It looks to be quite entertaining in humour gratutious violence sort of film.

I got this from Blockbuster, haven't watched it yet, but they only have the theatrical version, not the special edition, and it only has standard Dolby Digital, no lossless audio like the special edition has.

Got my used special edition from Amazon yesterday. I saw it in the theater, my wife had not. I have been looking forward towards it release, and sharing it with the wife. I {we} think its great fun. The sound {HD} is wicked cool, with tons of percussion. Probably more gun shots per min than any other movie that comes to mind. ;)

WARNING

Beware of the new movie RED. Summit studios has released two version of the bluray movie. One is a movie only version with only a dd5.1 sound track and a video bitrate of (BD25): 25779 kbps.

The special addition has a DTS-MA sound track and a video bitrate of (BD50): 28024 kbps.

You are getting an inferior version if you buy the "movie only" version. They do not state these changes clearly on the box. I was duped into the movie only version thinking i was getting everything but all the extras. Found out I was wrong. Target how ever is aware of this and is allowing to return my movie which is kind of them since this isn't their fault.

Got my information here: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/forum/thread/308269/red-blu-ray-audio-comparisons

Well I'm redboxing the regular version and looking forward to it. It's been a while since I saw a good ole crowd pleaser and I feel like I owe it to myself and I owe it to the State of Rhode Island ... no, I'm not high. :D

That's great. I have been to the Tennessee Theater which is an old movie palace that has had serious renovations done to it. It was absolutely fascinating. Mind you my brother in law is the Technical Director there so I got the super duper double secret uber tour.

This is their dome within a dome ceiling with that thing that goes around the stage on the lower right ... I forget what it's called but the joint is spectacular.

This is one of a handful of chandeliers that cost like 1/4 mil to restore ... each.

I watched the non special edition of this last night and thought it was good. The standard dolby digital audio was pretty good, and the video quality was excellent. The movie itself was very entertaining, definitely worth a rent.

Very entertaining movie - great ensemble cast. Helen and Malcovich make the movie for me.

I picked up the BluRay/DVD combo (BluRay on one side, standard DVD pressing on the flipside which is the 1st time I've encountered something like this) of this movie while in Syracuse a week ago and finally got to watch it this past Friday evening. It has the DTS-MA soundtrack. I really liked this movie. Although, the first 15 minutes are very slow, it ramps up really quick after that and maintains interest through out the whole film. This is one of those mindless action flicks but its throroughly entertaining and had me laughing. This was well worth the purchase as I'll be watching this flick again and agaian.

The video side was good with nice crisp clear scenes and details. The audio side although not bad wasn't particularily a standout by any stretch of the imagination. Maybe I'm disappointed with the audio because bullets whizzing by and explosions and such have already been done well on DVDs such as the Matrix, U571, etc and I'm just used to the effects now.

This isn't one of those movies where I worried too much about the sound. It was pleasantly silly and enjoyable, but you don't want to look too close at anything.
