Any tips for buying plasma online?

Needing some advice for purchasing a plasma online. I live in a rural area with no local dealers within a few hours drive. What are the precautions I should take before handing over the credit card number and taking delivery?

Well, only buy from an authorized seller, like amazon.

Make sure it works when they deliver it before you sign for it.

If you are interested in extending your warranty, do so through squaretrade.

phillip suggested one step further than what I would have, and that is to check the glass. I've never heard of squaretrade, interesting.

I have a Mack combo warranty on PJ and bulbs, and I just received my second free bulb. Pretty cool, got it on an AVS powerbuy a few years ago. So far, so great!

There is also Cleveland Plasma, and the other well known major retailers, whether that may be JR, Vanns, Sears, BB, Costco, etc.

It's on the seller to get the item to you safely. Go through ebay where your purchased is covered.

I bought my 54" plasma from Amazon and have no complaints. It took about two weeks to get too me. They don't ship large items like that by UPS or FedEx. My TV arrived with the box in pristine condition and the TV works perfect. I am very pleased.

Thanks guys. Amazon has the best price on the Panasonic 65S2 I'm interested in so that's where I buy it from. I think OneCall is Amazon's seller and spoke to them yesterday. The give 72 hours for you to inspect the panel for shipping damage and notification. And they do use a freight company for shipping.

They are actually separate sellers, but OneCall is $20 cheaper right now.

Anyways, I appreciate your work in those very interesting and revealing display shootouts, and IIRC, you might have been involved in the bluray player shootouts from some years ago as well.

I'll admit I normally buy everything off the net, but TVs I like to go to the store. 1, the price may be better on the net, but BestBuy and HHGregg offer great financing and HHGregg has told me they will match most online prices, so I will be using them.

I just purchased a 65" plasma Panasonic VT30 from Value Electronics, this is a new set that is just starting to show up so I have not received it yet but I got a great deal on the extended waranty, a free blu-ray player and a forum member discount. I also had Value Electronics do a 100 hour burn-in then ISF calibration before they ship it to me which is really nice, when it arrives it is ready to watch and you don't have to worry about the burn-in process.
