Great post Billy.
Looks like history / human nature has repeated once again.
Post #13 also mentions the story from the 1980's
Hey...some guy named Rickster was right on the ball....;):D

Not that my story is related but years ago I had hit some black ice while driving my Mustang. This caused me to panic and in doing so, I slammed on the breaks....needless to say I locked em up and slid right into the on coming pole...:(.
I'd hasten to say that most drivers on our roads today, don't have any formal training in defensive driving as it was in my case and can't handle anything out of the norm when that situation would arise.

Hey Billy, please tell my wife I was right, for this one time.:D:p

Edit: I wasn't poking fun at you or your post when I said, "history / human nature has repeated once again."
Was just pointing to that past story, to show how the public falls for hoaxes, and seem to love to pile on when something or someone is down.

Feds Find No Electronic Cause for Sudden Acceleration

This one flew under the radar:
http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/toyota/feds-find-no-electronics-cause-for-toyota-sudden-acceleration/19834938/

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and NASA, in separate studies, found no evidence that electronic interference played a role in sudden acceleration claims.
Federal safety investigators have found no electronic source for sudden unintended acceleration in Toyota Motor vehicles, ending a 10-month examination into the cause of the problem.

The results affirm Toyota's long-held claim that incidents of sudden unintended acceleration have mechanical causes or "pedal misapplication."

I've purchased both a Camry and a Corrolo during the height of this fear mongering brought on by bad and sloppy press more interested in ratings then news. Both my cars have been dependabley solid withouit a hickup. I remember back in the 70s when Audi was almost bankrupted by the same kind of thing. If you want real news, stay away from CNN and the like. They've become more of a tabloid interested in Hollywood star's lives, and anything sensational, a far cry from the truth. It took them almost 24 hours to report on Japan's 8.9 earthquake.
