I'm trying to understand. Do you have a HT-3300 (home theater in a box) HTIB or just the receiver from the HTIB?

That receiver does not support video upconversion so how are you connecting it to the cable box and the TV? You can go HDMI from the cable box to the receiver to the TV, or you can use component video for both but you cannot use component from the cable box to the receiver and HDMI from the receiver to the TV.

For the audio have you run the auto setup?

HT-3300 doesn't have Auto setup. OP could try to enable Audyssey DynamicEQ (see manual on how to)
I'd to and spend about $40 buying (or borrowing) RadioShack SPL meter to make sure all levels matching and setup correct speaker distances .

DVI to HDMI cable to the receiver and HDMI from the receiver to the TV should work for video but you still need to connect the audio somehow, probably using an optical cable and then set the receiver to look for cable audio via the optical connection. This is all in the manual.

yeah tried that but it didn't work, signal kept going out, the screen would turn blue, picture would stay about a second then go out again.
