Lord Of The Rings Extend Edition Blu-Ray Preorders

I just got a notification that Amazon is accepting preorders for the long awaited "Limited Extended Edition" in Blu-Ray. The version with 2 extra hours of movie content not counting the all of the extras. Before anyone gets too excited there is no release date only a vague 2011 or 2012. I have to wonder if it will be timed to release when the Hobbit comes out at the theater.

I received the email today as well, and immediately proceeded to order it (or rather lock in at the pre-order price guarantee).

My girlfriend has never seen these movies, and I have forbade her from watching these movies until the extended editions were released on Blue-Ray.

I can't wait to see these in high definition...

Hopefully they take more time with the mastering of these. Didn't the original BD's have issues? I believe that the reviews were kind of a mixed bag as far as picture quality.

What does "Limited Extended Edition" actually mean?

I get "Extended Edition"....but what exactly is indicated by that "Limited"?

It's a Palinism.

They are trying to say it's a limited edition, extended edition without all those editions in there.

I preordered as well. As far as picture quality goes I have no idea. I'm one of the masses boycotting the "Theatrical" version BD and there were a bazillion negative posts on Amazon that were protests over the timed release of multiple versions. People are getting tired of buying the same movie 4 or 5 times and are now just holding out for the final version. I'm holding off on the BD version of the Star Wars series for the same reason. I want assurances that it's the last and final super extended platinum wrapped with sugar on it version before I lay down $100.

IIRC, the original SD DVDs had a similar thing with the PQ being better in the EEs due to remastering. I don't really care if the PQ has minor issues as long as it is an improvement from the DVDs. There was NO WAY I was going to buy the standard editions, so I will be buying these.

Mixed bag is putting it lightly. It was the most disappointing BD purchase I made last year. It's loaded with DNR. However, my guess is that this was to help blend in the now unsatisfactory level of CGI? (Though the CGI was cutting edge at its time.)

You might ask why I bought this version, well, it's the first version I've ever owned. My brother prefers his DVDs on his smaller TV than my BDs on the giant projection screen. I believe it has to do with the blending effect, with lower resolution further helping the cause of "suspension of disbelief", perhaps. When the CGI stands out too clearly, it might prove distracting.

Yeah, I didn't bother with the theatrical versions either. I hope that many people did the same thing. Hopefully the movie studios will get the hint that these multiple dips piss people off.

I don't know about buying these again. I bought the original DVD set, then my daughter bought the extended versions (I really liked the additions), but I have to wonder how many more times I will ever watch these monstrous movies that take a whole night each to watch.

I rented the blue ray version of Fellowship and was underwhealmed at the improvement over the DVDs. I had the impression that the BD resolution may have over-revealed the amount of good detail in the digital imagery in the film. Maybe the extended ones will be better, but I think I will have to see something before I buy.

Never seen any of the LOTR movies. I have been patiently waiting for the extended Blu-ray releases. I suspect I am in for a real treat :D

I have the standard DVD's and they will do if I ever want to spend ~10 hours with them again. (I'm sure I will it's gonna be awhile though!:))

I won't discount my wife buying them though...she's like a moth to a flame when it comes to trilogies and the like!:D

I received the theatrical release BD set for Christmas, but I haven't watched them yet. After JM ;) deflated my enthusiasm, by telling me about the flaws in this set, I've been in no hurry. That said, I won't be chucking out more cash for this new edition. So, I guess I'll be watching this crappy set....sometime.:D

They've actually been showing the EEs in HD on Dish last month and this month. Not bad looking, but the sound sucks.

I preordered and just got the notice. June 28th it is and with Amazon preorders you usually receive it on the release date.

I'm on the fence. After watching the DVD set last Labor Day weekend using the up-scaling of the OPPO 83, I was really surprised how good the IQ was.
