I don't believe you can. I would not advise it. If you make an error your player will be wrecked. It will void the warranty and you won't be able to do updated. I would buy a universal player to play out of region discs.

There are $50 DVD players that are region free or have codes available to make them region free.

You will probably have to buy some hardware to install, or have installed, in order to do that. Here is a thread mentioning one example:

You will, of course, void your warranty by installing such a thing, and I do not promise you that it will work and not damage your device, though I would not expect it to be a problem.

$50?, I thought more like $39.99, 29.99 or less but yeah for $49.99 you do get a better one, with upscaling to 1080p capability included.

I think I paid $39 now that you mention it. A Phillips that you just had to enter a code in through the keypad. It's been like a year and I don't even use it anymore.

You got that right, Philip is one of them. There are some no name brand type that has it as an un (or counter) documented feature such as right out of the box it is already region. I guess they are selling them so cheap they don't even bother setting the code before boxing them. Those are probably priced at 19.99 or 29.99 top but built like a piece of crap that weigh a few ounces..:D

There are some advantages to my suggestion above of altering the BD player, over the idea of buying a DVD player that is easily hackable. One is that the alteration allows playback of not only other region DVDs, but other region BDs as well. Another advantage is that that BD player has better upconversion than one is likely to find in a cheap DVD player, so it would be better for playing DVDs as well. It also takes up less space, and simplifies one's setup, having fewer components that do all that one needs done. The disadvantages were mentioned in my original post.
