running goood speakers off a 2.1 logitech z2300 Sub is my sound suffering?

So I run my ipod or computer into a dial that controls volume and bass and connects to the sub, the sub distributes the sound to two semi high end speakers and powers them. Ascend cbm-170's. (high end for me) the sound seems good to me, but maybe I don't know anything. Is my sound suffering much? Should I get a receiver instead? I would be interested to know opinions. Thanks!

I would get a receiver to properly power them. Sounds like you just need a semi descent one to start off with. Anything from Onkyo or Denon would suit you just fine. You could start here to save some money and have a warrenty to boot.

Having a computer sub run could cause problems down the road.

Those over-rated, anemic ampsin that "sub" won't do justice to any real speakers and, in fact, could easily be driven into terminal clipping and perhaps take the speakers down with them.
