Please Help- A/V Reciever output to Monitors?

I am new here, I just stumbled upon the site researching this question. I have a pair of Samson monitors and was wondering if I could connect them to a reciever. Will the Denon AVR-391 connect to the powered monitors via the RCA preamp outs (it says it has 3, looks like 2 reg, 1 sub?) Please help, any feedback will be greatly appreciated!

Yes, you can connect an active or powered speaker to the pre outs of a receiver.

yes this is true, but the avr-391 does not have the preouts that you need. those are for surround back channels.

It's a good job I phrased my reply the way I did. So he is SOL unless he buys a new receiver.

Great! Thanks for the feedback you two. I have not purchased a reciever yet so I guess my next need would be to find an appropriate reciever with the preouts I need. I saw that the HK3390 looks to have the out I need. If you have any other suggestions for recievers I'll take em! I was hoping to find a A/V reciever that would do this. Any suggestions? Thanks again for the feedback.

While not exactly the answer to your queston, I'd suggest you stick with the receiver and look for other, non-powered speakers.

And, yes, I've looked at the Samson speakers.

Thanks for all the feedback Mark and Rat. After looking at the suggestions (yamaha vs. denon and new speakers) I think for my money I gotta ebay the Samsons and go with the denon with some affordable speakers...Infinity P362 vs Polk Tsi 300? Thanks again to all, how do you do the "official" thanks you guys have under your screen names?

RC-30s are also very nice...I plan on buying a pair for the rear channels if they stay that cheap in the next month or two
