Setting Crossover Frequency

Hello, I am connecting Infinity CS3007 front speakers to a Denon AVR-3805 Reciever. The Infinity docs list the crossover frquency as 450Hz, 3000Hz. When I walk through the denon speaker set up menu, the crossover frequency choices range from 40Hz - 250Hz. I don't really understand why the speakers rating is 200Hz above the choices in the receiver. I am confused as what to set the frequency to in the Denon. I believe I need to set it before using the denon mic to run an auto setup process.

Thank you for your help.

The crossover specs you listed are for the speakers internal crossovers. The one that you set in the receiver is the cross from the main speaker to the subwoofer. It should be set a bit above the -3db point for the lowest frequency your speakers can play.

Thanks

I see. I am not using a subwoofer, so I think the number I need is the frequency response. In this case 45Hz-35Khz +-3bB. I would set the parameter to 40Hz. Thanks for taking the time to help.

No, if you have no sub woofer, you set your speakers to large, and no crossover on the receiver. Select sub no in the set up.

I have set the speakers to large and no sub in the equipment setup menu but the receiver still asks for "crossover frequency" in the speaker set up menu. The receiver defaults this setting to 80Hz. I have been changing the setting between 40, 60 and 80Hz and listening to see what I prefer. Only the fronts of course.

are you using a center and surrounds? if so what are they? you need to set the crossover according to the frequency response of the center and surrounds to allow the fronts to cover the bass they can't. if you are not using a subwoofer and you set it to no sub and set the fronts to large, the fronts act as your "subwoofer" if you set the fronts to small and set an xo frequency for them all you are doing is cutting off the bass which is not a good thing. for example: say your center channel and surrounds has a response from 60hz-20khz, you would set the fronts to large, set the center and surrounds to small and then set the crossover frequency for the center and surrounds to 70hz, this way anything below 70hz from the center or surrounds will be played through the fronts which go down to 45hz.
