Legend of the Guardians BD

I netflixed this one. I thought it was going to be more of a kids movie, but I probably wouldn't recommend this one for small children. I was surprised to find out that it was directed by Zack Snyder, the director of 300, and it shows in the more violent nature - no blood, but a fair amount of intensity and battle. It has a pretty standard story but I felt it was presented quite well. They said they used some of the same animation technologies as Happy Feet to make the animals more realistic, and that is both beautiful and kind of unnerving at the same time, because the owls look REAL. There light/dark, good/evil elements are very distinct with the various aspects looking like something out LOTR (in a good way). The animation is excellent and is the real draw here. The sound is very good as well, and the voice acting is well done. Probably not a buy, and as I mentioned it isn't a little kids movie, but definitely worth a rental IMO.

I rented it from RebBox and thought it was pretty good but didn't get to see the last 11 minutes of it.

The disc I got had a dime size chunk missing near the outer edge. It played fine until near the end then froze up. Maybe I'll rent it again to see the end.

I haven't gotten a bad disc from Redbox yet. I would complain to them since the disc was defective and they should give you a code to rewatch it for free.

Here's an image showing the level of detail in the animation:

I rented it from RebBox ...
Redbox didn't have the Blu-ray ... :(

I'm not much on the whole animated thing but will try out the ones that receive good reviews because I don't want to miss out.
This one I'm getting because of John mentioning the video quality and the fact that he says it's not for small children has me intrigued
... I'm a bad boy, spank me mommy. :D

I'll take average animation with a great story over spectacular animation and a crappy story. Like I said, the story was pretty standard fare, nothing really new in terms of the typical fable. I found it kind of funny that they incorporate realistic elements (pellets) along with things like them wearing helmets and using weapons which are completely not realistic, but overall I found it interesting.

Did you check other local boxes online to see if another one in your area had it on BD?

LOL! ... The only reason I knew about the redbox online reservation game is because you had talked about it in some previous thread but yes
I checked online ... they don't appear to carry that in BR. As a matter of fact their list of BR titles is amazingly short ... 68 titles to be exact.
