Up-Firing Subwoofer

it is going to eventually accrue a decent collection of dust and debris from gravity.

There is a commercial on the radio here talking about how the weight of a mattress doubles from dust mites over 10 years (I think I have the numbers right).
do you honestly believe some dust is going to effect a sub ?

do you honestly believe that to be true (in a normal house hold ) ?
its a sales pitch, meant to scare people into buying.

I do not believe the dust will compromise the ability of the sub to function.

I agree that the commercial is designed to scare (and very likely is an exaggeration) and my post was partially in jest.
But yes, I do believe dust (and therefore dust mites) would accrue in an up firing sub (especially if it is low to the ground and under something like a sofa which is not sealed and subject to motion under peoples shifting weight).

while space is an issue my wallet is a larger issue. SVS subs are too expensive for me and it would be a lot easier to just put a cheaper box sub in a clever location then come up with 700 dollars for a beautiful sub like that.
