There's some pop, hip-hop, rap and what not that I like, but the last few years worth of so called music that's played on the radio is absolutely terrible.
Exactly..I like some of it too, but only in moderation. You can only take so much of rihanna before you go nuts, but my little girl loves her...:D

Same here my daughter goes nuts every time one of her songs comes on which is like every 2mins I just want to hit myself in the head with a ball-peen hammer to get away from it for awhile.

The dumbing down of American culture can't not be more evident than this performance and the Sarah Palin Reality TV Show.

Wasn't that a Vocoder? I hate that sound. Cher used it in that song about 15 years ago and I would hear it in public places over Muzak, or whatever they used and it drove me crazy.

Watch 'Cops' or Oprah and tell me these don't fall to the bottom of the list.

I was kind of hoping they'd trot Kanye West out.:D

I didn't see the SB either. But watching the halftime show was bad. I like the guitar solo, but they should have left it at that and not added Fergie.

I have a hard time listening to today's rap, r&B, and pop. I find myself getting very angry when I listen to it. I can't help it lol. It pisses me off that almost every major rap/pop star takes samples from every big hit in different genre's, and ruins it. One in particular that really irritated me was when biggie smalls died and puff daddy rapped about him and "sampled" Every Breath You Take by The Police. The irony of it all was Every Breath You Take was about a stalker, and Sting himself said he didn't understand it in an interview lol. To this day I can't even listen to the original song, because of the thoughts of P-Daddy and Biggie lol

I can't listen to rap and some of the others because I can't relate to that whole lifestyle...the lifestyle I despise. Why would I want to listen to the same type of music that gangsters listen to?!?! There are a lot of artists I won't listen to because of the person they are in their personal lives...a lot of them are such jackasses.

Sorry, I'm venting :D

Yep, times have certainly changed. The classic rock we love was created in an era when the music mattered because it was distributed via radio only. Heck, the only way anybody even saw the artist was at a concert, the album cover (when they were big enough to mean something), or in a magazine. So the music had to matter and consequently the good rose to the top.

Now a days, music is a multi-media distribution platform. So the artists "looks" come first. Make a "hot" video and the music comes second because the visual has taken priority over the audio. That is why medium talent has done so well in the last decade or so. Look at Brittany Spears. Medium talent at best but I still remember the first time I saw her first video in that school girl outfit. Caught my VISUAL attention. Never bought the album or downloaded the song or any of her songs. But I sure remember the LOOK of that video.

My nephew is into rock and likes some of the modern stuff, but also heavily into classic rock since the old artists understand the importance of a great guitar riff, etc.

Another thing is the current music scene is so fractured that I don't even know if there is a radio station that would play anything modern that I would like to listen too. Can't stand modern R&B/Hip Hop (like Beastie Boys "License to Ill") and will jam in the car to Sir Mix-a-lot's "Baby got Back" if it comes on the satellite radio. But modern stuff? Nope. Haven't found anything worth spending money on in quite awhile.

Side note: I also laugh about the sampling of "every Breather you Take" by the Police. I actually listen to the lyrics so I get it. Amazing how so many people don't pay attention to lyrics.

Anyone ever listen to Alan Jackson and get the line "...No thank you Ma'am, where I come from we like ladies that sing soprano"???
