What to look for in a blue ray player?

I have a Samsung BDP1600 blue ray player. I hate it. I would like a new/used one to replace this one. My dad has 2 Pioneer Elites, BDP95FD and a BDP23FD. I saw that they have a new model BDP31FD. I read the specs on it. Things like 36 bit deep color ? Do you want more or less? Is there a brand or model that are better than the other?

Unless you display supports deep color, that doesn't matter. That isn't something you should worry about anyway. Blu-ray PQ is good from basically all players. Ultimately, it comes down to price. If you aren't looking to spend a lot, go with the best reviewed player that fits your budget. I tend to stick with Panasonic on the less expensive end. Good players that have good firmware support.

I'm not sure if my tv supports deep color or not. Its a Samsung unb6000 series.

I don't believe it does. I was reading the Samsun Tech Support Q&A and it was a bit vague, but I got the impression it does not as they don't list any bit ratings.

As Garcia mentioned all players have good PQ, so it comes down to firmware updates and features. Samsung seems to be having reliablity problems, but I hear good things about panasonic.
Hard to beat the ps3 for timely updates, reliability, and loading speed. Oh yeah, and it can play games :)
