Problems with Denon 1910

I have a Denon 1910 and when running a PS3 through it via HDMI I get lots of flicker and sparkling in the picture.
I've replaced the PS3 and the HDMI cables thinking it was the PS3, but the problem was still there.
It works perfect when connected directly to the TV, I've tested all 4 different cables by connecting it directly to the TV.

I've spoken with Denon tech support and they had me turn off the IP Scaller, then reset the processor, but not fix yet.

Has anyone ever had this problem?

How is the output resolution set in the PS3? If the 1910 or TV up-convert, you could drop the PS3 rez to 720p- that should get rid of the sparkles.

Just another reason to hate HDMI.

Interesting you mention this because it only happens when the resolution is @ 1080p. The PS3 is set to upconvert, the TV and Receiver are not.

Is this due to the upconvert being set on?

My other option would be to have the PS3 going to the TV, then Optical from the TV to the Receiver.

Set the TV to upconvert and see if it cures the problem or go into the Denon's setup menu to see if you can find out what is needed. The receiver is an HDMI repeater, so it should handle whatever you throw at it unless it's HMDI 1.4 with 3d.

How long is the cable from the receiver to the TV?

My parents sony BDP-S360 is connected to a Denon AVR-1708 and they have sparkles in thier picture sometimes too... never knew what was causing it, but I may have to play with the scaling options next time I'm over there.

How long is the cable from the receiver to the TV?

The cable is 6 ft long. I'll try setting the tv to upconvert when I get home.
I'm hope that fixes it.

I wouldn't expect this from a 6' cable. 60', maybe. I just had some similar issues with a set of HMDI baluns using Cat5e over 65' and dropping the BD resolution to 720p took care of it. I had also run a component cable and since the TV has a scaler, I can compare the two. Either looks outstanding.

I'll try setting the tv to upconvert when I get home.

There is no setting on a fixed pixel display to upconvert. The TV will always scale and/or deinterlace any incoming signal to its native resolution.

I would set all devices to output the video at its original resolution and let the TV do its thing. The scaler in the TV is almost always much better than anything in a stand-alone component like a dvd player or cable box.

Possible fix

I think I found a fix for this issue.

After playing with just about every setting on the Receiver and PS3 I found a setting in the PS3 called "Deep Color Output (HDMI)" and it was set to
Automatic. The only options are Automatic and Off.

I changed the setting to Off and the problems is no longer there.
I've tested with DVDs, BluRays and Games it it does not happen when it's set to Off.

If I change it back to Automatic it starts happening immediately.
