So I just purchased this receiver and I really like it. I like it so much that I am going to buy some new speakers. I decided that i am going to purchase some ascend acoustics cmt-340's. Now my question is, will the 708 be powerful enough to push these speakers?

I recently walked in to a bose store and I am not a big fan of bose but I just threw my ipod and started to play with one of the displays and I have to admit that the system really "moved" me. Its like I felt a lot more then I do at home and I guess thats what I want to eventually want to achieve with this new setup. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes on the receiver driving those speakers.

Why have you chosen the Ascends? Have you heard them before ? Have you tried any other speakers ?

unfortunately I have not heard the speakers but my friend back home in chicago has a set and he really likes them. I tend to trust his ear we have always been on the same level when it comes to car audio and I have also heard a lot of good reviews. I have not purchased yet but I am very much taking recommendations on loud speakers so if anyone has something to say....

For the price they are good speakers. I'm not sure how well they do with compressed music I haven't tried it. I play strictly lossless music at home. Either way do keep in mind that you will need a subwoofer to supplement most bookshelves.
