Curious on peoples thoughts for this. fairly big room. 18x25x8. Would like to keep under $1300 with everything. Was going to do the HSU and maybe add another in a year, but after ready the EMO review I could get 2 or 3 for the same price. The only going to 25hz concerns me a bit, but sounds like in room goes lower. Amp is low but almost the same RMS as the HSU (peak aside). But like I said would get 2 of the Emotiva's.

Just curious.

Without even looking back at the numbers again, I'm going to say the Hsu will have more output, as well as extention, than 2 Emos and probably 3.

how about Two Funkywaves FW 10.1

They're ported which I think will work better in your room.

I only have one right now but i beleive in multiple subs or dual for a start...i asked the question to many people and dealers and they told me i would be better with dual paradigm sub12 then a single sub25....so if i was you...easy!..dual emo's....:)..oh wait 1300$..you can even get 3 emo's..lol...RIGHT!...:p

I haven't heard the new HSU myself, but it sounds like it's a beast! I've never had an HSU sub disappoint me.

Ok come on now..i would easyly take 3 12 incher subs ''even 2''... that are rated at 300 watts RMS then a single 15 incher rated at 350 RMS...peaks we care a little less when talking about multiple subs!... he would gain in output and cone area...36 '' against 15''...did i learn a little here or all that i read and try to learn is BS?

You are way off. First of all, amplifier watts doesn't mean much. Second of all. you can't add up circular area like that, three 12" circles do not equal a 36" circle. And finally measurements count more than specs, and you would need a lot of Ultra Sub 12's to equal a VTF-15H, at least from comparing Hsu's measurements to Audioholics's Ultra Sub 12 review measurements. I'm not saying the Ultra Sub 12 is a bad subwoofer, but the VTF is what happens when you aren't making compromises for a small size and a small budget (not to mention having Dr. Hsu designing everything from the ground up).

Ok if your telling me a single 15incher can beat 3 Emos so thats the emos are not worth it..that will give the OP his answer..and btw for you the amp doesnt mean anything?....well sorry but yes i onwn paradigm and their ultra class d amps makes a difference and that why we pay more for them...

Three 12 inch woofers do not have a radiating area equivalent to 36 inches (3*12). Two of the Emotivas would only have 28% more radiating area than a single HSU VTF-15H. If your math worked it would be over 2.5 times more radiating area which I admit would be pretty awesome, sadly not possible.

Regardless, you're comparing wattage on a ported 15 inch subwoofer to a sealed 12 inch? Apples to oranges, there's more to consider than just wattage, especially between those configurations.

Would 3 Emos beat the 15 inch HSU? I don't know, to be honest the HSU would probably play lower, however you'd have better control over room response with three subs than the one HSU. I'd personally go for two subs like the SVS PB10 or something similar, staying with ported design instead of sealed unless absolutely necessary (and I have a new sealed sub in my stereo system).

To the OP, with that size space and your budget I'd get multiples of a smaller ported sub rather than either option you asked about.

Getting the HSU now and adding another in a year is ultimately the best configuration you've mentioned.

While the ongoing debate rages, I can add two comments:

1) Have you had a sub in this room before? Do you know how sensitive the room is to bass nodes and nulls? How much flexibility do you have in the placement of your sub(s). If your room is problematic or if sub placement is restricted to only a few places, it makes sense to hedge your bets by planning on multiple subs.

2) The review for the HSU should be coming out in the next few weeks. You might want to wait and see if there is anything in it that "speaks to you".

OK so i try to understand..why NOTHING can break a Pardigm subwoofer?..i tried it all...loud volume...all the damn settings to max and at loud volume and those amps and woofers never break..?....my poor receiver went donw before...lower yes a sinlge 15 incher will play lower but ok you dont see the advantages of multiple subs....so instead of getting a second sub 12 i will get any 15 incher...but i was planning on quad sub12....but i know a single hsu would be better then quad paradigm sub12....
