There is supposed to be a tie-in with REW to ease the pain.

Ease the pain....?

I think that is an incredibly elegant and simple way to get your bass EQ'd without having to go through monkeying with all the intricacies of a DCX.

GranteedEV:
The miniDSPs definitely look just plain excellent however my primary concern with them is that they apparently clip at higher power levels.
Do you have a link for info on this.....

Just the pain of the learning curve. Of course I'm finding the 1124 painful and that's just a learning curve issue too.

I just wasn't happy with the software interface - it won't go full screen, resolution is sub par.... I mean its a program that is in a window so small, less then half the real-estate of my laptop screen.

You can only play a freq sweep, which plays over and over again, and you watch the response on screen, and take a snapshot of it by clicking a button. I just like how REW lets you initiate a sweep sent from the laptop and then it shows the final response which to me seems to have a little better resolution IMO. I think for $300 the software should be far more robust.

I don't know, I guess its just not a GUI that I am comfortable with. User setup was flawless and what REW should be, but there is no USB calibrated mic avail at this time for such things. Maybe someday some co will come up with a mic kit that will facilitate something like that happening. If they improve the software for the Omnimic I'd be willing to use it....

As much as I don't like having all the extra hardware to make the sweeps happen, I'll take REW for now......
I just got my OmniMic last night and loaded the software on my laptop. I agree, the window could be larger, but it's not horrible on my 17" screen. I haven't tried printing the image snapshots to see if it helps to make the image larger. I'll keep mine for now while I sort it out. It has a lot of potential that hopefully can get sorted out with a software upgrade. I really think this thing has a lot of potential and the software just needs some tweaks. I guess I'll just have to read the instructions on the HELP tab. :(

I still need to order a preamp for my laptop with phantom power to use with the EMM-6 so I can use REW. Then I can do actual side-by-side comparisons of measurements.

Found it right at the M-audio store for $75 free ship... Just ordered one, now I just need the MIC.....

FWIW....

What other connectors do I need for this setup...?
I just prefer not to order from the states when possible.. i've been hit with too many "surprise" duties etc in the past. As for connectors..good question. I will tell you when it arrives and I have to figure it out :D

Probably just a M-F XLR cable

yes, but for running sweeps do you really need the higher bit rate...?

I'm thinking no.... I'm sure it'll work just fine but why spend money on an unnecessary upgrade....

As far as the MicPort thing, - I'm not sure if that would work, it provides gain, but no sound card integration - correct me if I'm wrong..

but it's got 250 times the resolution that's going to be truncated to a little 1/6th octave graph

Not sure what you mean by "sound card integration", but Micport in addition to xlr pre-amp also has dac and connects to pc with usb cable...

p.s:

Flew way over my head - could you explain please
Why it'd be truncated?

well we're just using it to get a simple little relatively low res graph. We're the ones doing the truncating.

Anyways I just got the dayton EMM-6 when I got home today and realized two things

1) ****. I had an xlr cable that i cut up to use with the mini DSP. Now I need a new XLR cable.
2) ****. I just realized you need a stand to hold the mic up.

I don't wannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnna buy a mic stand.

The XLR cable part i sort of worked out. Ish. I took what was left of the female end, and made an unbalanced RCA-XLR adapter. Hopefully the M-Audio has XLR-in.

Anyways guys I posted my impressions of the MiniDSP over in the user reviews section. Hope that's detailed enough.
