This one is perhaps a toughie, and I wouldn't rush into anything until you're sure, and that includes PJ hunting. I'll start with the easy method, then throw out a couple of random ideas.

1) My first instinct is a 65" plasma where the windows are.

compromise:
This means you don't get to open up the windows unless you're ok with neighbors knowing you have a big tv.

advantages: less money (waaay less), don't have to worry nearly as much about light control as with a PJ, no one knows you have the stuff unless you invite them in, keep larger space for better acoustics.

2) tab tensioned retractable AT screen that falls over three inwall speakers on the opposite wall.

compromise: finding the best way to hide the entire mechanism without invoking an ungainly look.

advantages: painting the speaker grilles with the same color red gives you a bit of stealth. Retracting the entire screen means no one sees it when they walk in, more stealth. (The screen will likely need extra "drop" to get it to the correct height, while allowing a possibly very high and completely hidden roller mechanism). I recommend Seymour, but you will want at least 11' distance to be safe (though I would be fine with closer, this is to be safe).

3) the partitioning of a dedicated room as you're already thinking about (I only bring this up to provide my own opinions/insight).

compromises: already covered, I believe. You lose space, and even more space with walls, greater expenses, poorer acoustics. I don't think anything says luxury more than space does.

advantages: No one knows you have it, as you stated already. You would have absolute freedom in the aesthetics of a dedicated theater. However, I tend to vote for performance over aesthetics. I thought I should reiterate this advantage, as the look can be fantastic (but again I'm nearly certain this is not the path I would take . . .) Check out this 12x13 room on a tiny budget, looks great:

So you are talking about the wall where the little black shelf on the wall is, correct?

I was thinking maybe a divider (half-wall) from the tv/ media room then the office area where it is by the front living-room windows.

My only issue is I would hate for Dominoes Pizza to ring my doorbell and then as I open the door, they could see in and I would fully expose my crap to the public. I guess I have to say is I hate a front door being exposed to an open area. :( :(

I guess we should consider looking @ buying another home in the future just having a foyer and nothing exposed to anyone as others can see in from the front door. I'm pretty cautious about that. Oh and I am not saying the pizza boy @ Dominoe's Pizza would be a part-time robber. I do have ADT and I do have survaliance camera outside the front door, but you get the idea. :(
Consider a small wall, say 3 or 4 ft wide, jutting from the front wall by your outside door. This would help demarcate the foyer and living room and maybe add some privacy.

Or order pizza for pick-up. :D

jostenmeat-

I will consider that I probably will go on ahead and take my 50" Plasma and put it by those front windows.
Also from that link of that 12x13 HT room off AVSforum, I like the idea what is below it.

So I decided to take a pic of whats below mine and I can custom make some mesh grills and put the subs below and put my Plasma on top. Then the dual shelves on both sides, I will run my audio equipment.

No the 50" is not as big as a 60" or 65" ect, but I think it would do for now.

To put in place where my Plasma is now, there is a huge sale on a 40" LCD Toshiba 1080 for only $399 that I may swoop to put in it's place. This way I can go on ahead and make something happen for now :)

Thanks!! :)

Oh, so there is more than one large room. Hm. I would just keep things the way they are, maybe. I mean, the TV looks fine where it is right now? It would be nice to open up the windows by the front door to air the place out now and then? I dunno, but hmm, good luck.

I could, but I have a whole another area that is not really being used. So I wanna use it since I paid for it. ;)

I just talked to a friend that used to do construction / home design.

he suggested that I put a wall from the entry door (foyer) that will divide the living room to go about 8' or so.

Which this is block people from looking in from our front door and see whats inside there.

What a wonderful idea!!

Ok all,
"
So I am going to go with a PJ and the max screen width I can do is 8' wide (96")

Now the only other catch is that the PJ will be sitting about 20' back.

Will any PJ to screen ratio work for the size / throw ratio??

Note:
If worse comes to worse, I can ceiling mount, but I have a wonderful bookshelf on the opposite side of the wall from the screen would be that the PJ can sit on and plus it has a plug outlet on the ceiling (so no need for electrician to come out and rewire a electric socket if I can get away with something from 20' back to the screen.

Thanks

So I will be receiving my furniture friday. So layout is done to where I know where it all will be positioned.

As for the area where the all my front placements will be, I came up with this and I hope it will turn out nice.

*As for Projector and Screen, these two items has not been purchased yet, but I plan to go with a HD20 with a electrical pull-down screen (not manual). It will be 120" so it should cover this window as you will see in the pic.

Here:

Please look at my idea and let me know what you fine folks think so far?
Many thanks :)

My Dad and HT progression:

Hi all,

Sorry for the delay of my HT process.
It has been a hard two-weeks.

I been very quite about it, but I will open up now.
My father, which he is 57 yrs old was diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney cancer. He had a hard and long, over-priced fight with the pills he was given by his oncologist, which by the way failed.
As I type, he is in a coma and give and take he will be with us until Tuesday from what I was told by his nurse with Hospice.

He is survived by my mother, his only son (Which is me), my wife and two- grand children (mine) and they are his only grandfather. As it is very hard to see him go at a young age, he was a AWESOME father that was there for me when I needed him. With that being said, all I can say is I am loosing not my dad, but my best friend!

I tried to do many things to get my mind and tears from thinking about him when I walk away from him to get some fresh air. I tried to get on my mountain bike and go tear up some trails. No go!
I hug and kiss my mom, wife and kids and tears just come again.
I think another approach, I go forward on my HT idea and this is the only thing that took my mind and focus off my dying POP's!!

As for my open area, I decided to use what I had and proceed forward.
(See sig for equipment)

My plans here in the near future is to purchase:

* A projector
* Electric screen in place of my my 50" plasma now sits in these pictures.

I made the area both office and HT / Living that would or at least hope feels welcoming to family & friends.

Please give me your thoughts of my current project and most of all please take at least 20 seconds of your time to place a prayer in your heart for my father.

Again, I do want to thank everyone here for the ideas.

Cheers and god bless.

The beginning, I had no idea:
