Suggestions for Budget front 2 speakers, $100-$180

I was looking at the following on amazon, perhaps you guys can help me out:

I'm getting a Denon 1610 (if it ever gets here from eCost) and I'm slowly building up the system, starting with the 2 front speakers

Jamo C 403
Sony SS-F6000
Yamaha NS-6490

Music and Movies mostly.. from 1930's and 40's film noir to the Glimmer Twins to rap.

I would suggest the Polk Monitor series, they can be had on newegg or from frys.com for cheap from time to time.

I would try to avoid mix & match speakers. It's hard enough to have balanced sound without three different speaker voicings. Also, don't assume that a tower speaker with a lot of drivers will sound good, especially at a low price. Buying cheap speakers is a good way to be unsatisfied by the system because everything is affected by them. Better to buy better in stages than the whole group, at a low price. If you don't like the first ones, you'll have to buy better ones anyway, and you will have wasted money on the ones you don't like.

Look at the Jamo CS603. It's more, but definitely better than the others in the group.

Out of those 3, I'd have to go with Jamo.

If you can push that budget just a smidge... I would go check out the Pioneer towers at Best Buy (or they can be purchased directly from Pioneer).

Since you mention both movies and rap music - and you are building slowly and starting with such a small budget... I have to presume that you won't have $400-$1200 for a subwoofer anytime soon.

With the FS51's you would at least be getting into the 45-50Hz range on the bottom end. That Denon should have no problem getting them up to reasonable volume - and they'd only be a movie-ticket over your budget.

You could even start with the bookshelves and center channel and get your 3 front speakers for about the budget you specified for the front pair. I would at least recommend giving them a listen - they're pretty surprising.

And if you have a BB near by - you can always try them out in your room and return them within 30 days if you don't like them or find them too insensitive for your intended listening volume.

BIC America has very good Towers in the price range you listed. I have the BIC DV84 Towers. I feel they are excellent for what I paid. If you prefer Horns They have the Acoustech Line as well. I personally like the sound of the Venturi Line. I wouldn't want to start comparing these speakers to the ones you listed but if you can audition them you will be very surprised.

I'm sorry to have confused anyone.. I was trying to show the options of what I was considering, not 3 seperates I was going for. (if that was the impression you got?) Fully understand what you're saying.

Those Pioneer's do look pretty nice, right now I'm watching a pair on eBay that're scratched on the back so they're going for a good price cut.

Right now I really like the Jamo idea, but I'm leaning more towards Polk tho. Reason being, for someone new to this, Polk seems to have such a widely available offering in speakers, making it much easier to pick up the extra pieces as I go along.

Jamo seems to be sold mostly on Amazon from different retailers, and I can't really understand which center I'd pair with which loudspeaker, etc.? I'm also not totally convinced what I need, when I need it, will be in stock from any one of the varied retailers by way of Jamo. I do hear they are very good quality speakers though, and would feel like I'm missing out without getting to try a pair.

I suppose the first thing I should go for, really, is a subwoofer because right now I'm going to be using the speakers from my HTIB until I have the cash and phase them out with *real* speakers, however the passive sub from the HTIB won't be of any use to me. --not to change the direction of this thread, but just to let you guys know my thought process.

I'll probably go for a sub and then come back to this thread when the time comes. I still appreciate any feedback and suggestions that you all might have.

I've been keeping an eye on that.. came across a few Kenwood 3, 4, 5 ways.. looked nice but I've never really thought of Kenwood in a non-vehicular way.

If you can be a bit patient just keep looking. Something worth starting out with invariabley pops up and you can always post it here for a sound check.
