Alien Anthology BD set

WOW WOW WOW. I threw in the first three last night just to see how they looked and I have to say, that is definitely the best I have ever seen Alien look. Having seen that one so many times, I can't believe how good it looks now. This is about as impressive as Blade Runner in terms of how great a job was done on the remaster! Aliens wasn't quite as significant a jump in PQ IMO, but it looks great also. 3 was already a good looking film, and it looks even better here as well. I was only looking at PQ yesterday since it was late, so I will have to see how the new audio tracks do tonight Hopefully I will get a chance to watch these in full soon.

Unlike most, I actually like all of the films, though of course with a preference for the first two

The packaging is cool too.

It wasn't without issue however, as I posted here. Hopefully the new firmware will take care of it and/or a fix will be available soon if not.

It is pretty much the same price everywhere that I have checked so far, at right around $89. I am sure it will go on sale around the holidays. I was going to ask for it for xmas also, but I had $50 in Amazon certs so I got it for $39; it was a no brainer for me

I didn't try it on my PS3 yet and the Panny is at the other house. When I had the issue with Max Payne (which has been fixed with the current FW), the PS3 played it fine. Oppo responded and though it is a little weird, it worked when I just tried while I was at the house at lunch (see other thread), so it isn't a show stopper

Plus tax, that would be about $98 total.

Those bastards would not match.

So I ordered it online from bluflick.com for a total of $66.98 (includes 2.99 S/H and the $5 coupon).

So I guess it was a blessing in disguise since I saved $31?

It took about a week via USPS.

The condition is perfect - brand new box, brand new discs, etc.

The restoration is quite impressive. I remember all that picture noise when I saw them on laserdisc and DVD. But now it looks brand new and smooth. Of course, a lot of the items like electronics, computers, clothes, and hair style look way outdated But they look clean, smooth, and sharp like a new print.

I've only watched the first film so far. It looks amazing!

In case it isn't clear, you get TWO versions of ALL four films - the theatrical release and a later "director's cut" or "special edition" version. So, technically, you're getting 8 films.

The sheer amount of extra features is intimidating. It's like a graduate level course on the Alien movies! There's even the features from the laser discs from back in the day.

I can understand not wanting to pay for films 3 & 4 (both of which I like, although they're clearly inferior to the first 2), but so far I'm incredibly impressed with the set.

I distinctly remember just how grainy this was in basically every other home theater release. I am not quite sure how they did it, but they managed to de-grain this movie, without giving any kind of a "glossy" look to anything. All of the actor's faces are razor sharp. Contrast is excellent (deep blacks and clear whites).

As far as sheer "extra" content is concerned, this is not that big of a leap from what we got in the Quadrilogy is concerned. We didn't even get the new commentaries from Sigourney Weaver that were promised. I guess the best addition in terms of extras is the more or less complete Alien 3 doc, which was cut down for the quad.

3 & 4 were already pretty good looking as they were newer, but I completely agree that the restorations of 1 and 2 is nothing short of amazing. Both look as ridiculously good as I could have hoped.
