Hello all, I am new to the forum and have done a little searching thus far for a new set-up. To be honest, this will be my first HT system and I not too familiar with the world of HT. To give you the short of the long I am located in a rural area in NE and there is no place that sells quality HT products within 250 miles. Needless to say, I really have no way to sample different speakers. Thus, I joined the forum to get some input form people that have far more experience and knowledge in terms of suggesting a setup for me. I plan to slowly build up the system getting a couple of components for the system at a time. Right now I plan on getting the front left and right speakers and I am willing to spend roughly 600 total on the two. I did come across the Klipsch Icon WF-34's and I'm pretty interested in them. Hopefully someone can shed some light on the subject and recommend some speakers. Oh and the room size is 14 feet by 20 feet, and the speakers will be solely used for HT!

TIA,
Andy

I have not listened to those Klipsch but be aware that Klipsch tend to be very much a love or hate speaker. Some people love them and swear by Klipsch while others like myself find the sound fatiguing after extended listening. That said, I find listening fatigue more of a problem with music than TV and movies.

You're going to want a subwoofer soon. Having a good quality subwoofer will give you a lot more speaker options because a most speakers just don't play deep enough to be satisfying without one.

If you aren't going to buy a good quality subwoofer really soon then I'd consider and research Infinity Primus P362 towers. I suggest those because they're very good bang for the buck and play down to roughly 40hz. You'll still want a sub but you can get by without one if action movie boom and rumble isn't the priority. The matched center is the PC350.

If you were going to buy a subwoofer right away then I'd consider and research Ascend Acoustics CMT-340SE but these will need some kind of stands and you'll want a good 12-24" behind them for the bass port to work.

Agreed; I'd buy the towers and wait to save up for a good sub and be done, though.

I'm not sure if Audio Adviser is an authorized retailer for Martin Logan (probably isn't), but these are a pretty good price, considering they use to be $600 each.

Here are some WF-34's:

I haven't listened to either the WF-34's or the Prefaces for real listening sessions, but I would go for the Martin Logans because I always wanted a pair :D

Thanks you guys so much for the recommendations! I plan on getting a good set floorstanding or bookshelf speakers then saving up for a good sub. Now, I ask for recommendations for a sub that would match the four speakers recommendations. I am looking to spend roughly 400 dollars (+/- some) on the subwoofer!

CMT-340SE with what sub?

WF-34 with what sub?

CF-30 with what sub

Martin Logan's with what sub?

TIA,
Andy

Contact Hsu Research and Elemental Designs and have them recommend a sub for your room. eD tend to be a few bucks cheaper but they sometimes have long delays.
