I saw this and loved it. Rooster Cogburn is such a great over-the-top character and so identified with The Duke, I was not sure it would work, but I think Jeff Bridges might be the only other actor that could do it. Hailee Steinfeld was great as the stiff necked girl Mattie and Matt Damon was also excellent as LaBouef.

This Grit was much grittier than the 1969 version, and I heard (but don't know) that it's a little closer to the book. Anyway, if you like big actor flicks and can make your way through the thick, boozy, spitty language, this is well worth seeing. It's visually big, so see it in the theater....well worth seeing.

Seriously, I have no life.
Other than Heath Ledger I cannot think of a movie star that really plays different characters. Nearly all play into their natural character.

I love Jeff Bridges and I think he can pull off the part very well.
Watch 'The Fisher King', 'The Fabulous Baker Boys' and 'The Big Lubowski' and then tell us that Bridges plays the same role in all of his movies.

The Coen brothers nailed it.
They avoided their trademarked ironic distance and just went straight into the story and characters. I forgot that it was a Coen Bros movie after a while.

What about Daniel Day-Lewis?
