Denon AVR-4311: Bypass HDMI signal with receiver off

Hi.

Following a long thread (http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70421), I bought a Denon AVR-4311. While waiting for the speakers, I'm currently connecting my STB to the receiver using HDMI, instead of directly to the TV. Question is: can I receive the HDMI signal on the TV with the receiver disconnected? I mean, is there a way for the Denon to bypass the signal from the STB direcly to the TV, while it's off?

The feature is called HDMI bypass, and it doesn't appear that Denon has it.
Many of the new Yamahas allow the signal to pass thru while the reciever is in stand by mode.
I'm not sure what other companies have it.

My Denon 5308 & AVP-A1HD have this HDMI-bypass feature, but I can't speak for the rest of the lineup.

However, the 5308 & AVP-A1 have to be in Stand-By mode - off, but plugged into outlet, & in stand-by.

Wait. I don't get it. So if you set HDMI Control to "ON", it will pass-thru the HDMI signal to the TV even when the AVR is in Standby mode?

I only took a quick gander, and it's called "HDMI Control".

I assume it should pass thru while receiver is off (because when Control is enabled, the unit consumes more energy I think it said?).

It also said that the TV itself must be HDMI Control capable, and well, lol . . .

I think to be certain, one should head over to the AVS owner's thread and run search functions, or ask directly.

I will check my AVP-A1 & 5308. Since both can pass-thru HDMI in standby mode, I assume both have the HDMI Control set to "ON".

I will set it to "OFF" to see if that standby-pass-thru goes away.

But I will have to do that in a few days since I'm going out of town.

Denon has 4th graders writing their manuals.

They can't seem to afford high-school kids yet.

I'm no genius, but thanks. I do tend to keep up a little more with the Denon units, but this feature is becoming more prevalent and I think Yamaha started it. I didn't think it was rocket science, but I do have a BSEE degree.

I would have never thought of that HDMI Control feature in a million years.

I always thought that it was used to control other components for power on/off.
