I have a Tripplite HT1000UPS on my PC. It is just about 2.5 years old and it is out of warranty. :( The battery no longer holds a charge. I have come to the realization that this model does not have a user replacable battery. I am quite disapointed that it has only lasted this long. I just purchased an APC BR1300G and discovered that it is way too large to fit under my PC. I have installed the APC in my equipment rack.

Is there any way to salvage the Tripplite? The newer model of that UPS has a user replacable battery but I cannot find any batteries for sale.

Anyone have experience with UPS units?

I'm pretty sure they all have a battery that can be replaced. Maybe you could contact the company and find out if they have any advice for you.

Security installation & supply distributors sell these batteries, as well as some hobby stores. It's a sealed gel cell battery. Google the part number.

That's the ironic part. Most UPS units have a replacable battery. The "Replace battery" indicator is lit up. The manual for this particular unit states the following:

“REPLACE” (Battery Recharge/Replace) Icon: This icon will illuminate and an alarm will sound after a self-test to indicate the UPS battery needs to be recharged or replaced. Allow the UPS to recharge continuously for 24 hours, and repeat the self-test. If the icon continues to illuminate, contact Tripp Lite for service. Battery replacement should only be performed by qualified service personnel.
Every other UPS I have had experience with had a simple access panel and you can slip a new battery in it. I don't get it. Why have a "Replace battery" indicator if you can't replace the battery! I am just venting my frustration.

I think they just want to avoid liability in the event that someone opens one of theirs while it's plugged in and goes 'poof!'. Turn it over- does the case have screws to hold it together? If you have a Batteries Plus near you, they should have a replacement.

The battery indicator tells people that the battery is dead so they don't need to call TrippLite for information.

If you can take it apart you should be able to replace the battery. Get out your screwdriver and go to work. :D
