My ears are still subtly ringing from last night's showing, even though I set it to the level I typically do (about -12 MV). I think it runs hotter than other titles, and the upper LFE particularly in some scenes. The LFE should please bass heads.

I had particular guests that haven't been over in quite a while, and so I let them have front 'n center. One of them believes that this title should garner awards for best soundtrack. They were extremely impressed.

IMO, I think the best soundtrack I've heard recently in terms of quality might be Toy Story 3, and think it is superior to Inception, and for some particular scenes, easily IMO. Not that Inception wasn't fun. I only recently learned that TS3 was the first time, ever, that 7.1 was used in a commercial theater. Yes, we the consumers have enjoyed discrete 7.1 for about 4 years now, before the theaters ever had them (I am not including Iosono enabled theaters in the discussion!).

I thought the PQ was fine, and was greatly relieved to see that it was at least significantly better than The Dark Knight (excluding IMAX scenes). Not demo material to me, but good enough IMO.

I think I might know what you are talking about with the upper LFE. There was one scene in particular that seemed really hot. Probably mid 20s-30s for a long period and seemed almost out of place and overpowering everything. I didn't watch the whole thing, so I don't know if it was in other scenes, but this was the scene where they were waking up at each level of the dreams.

Inception Blu-Ray came in yesterday and I watched it for the first time. I liked it but found the visuals to be less than what I was expecting from all the buzz/reviews...Image quality on par with Iron Man 2 kinda was not expected (somewhat soft). Audio wise though it was a real treat, other than a few soft voice moments its reference material. My subs only go to 24HZ, but it was still quite a LFE experience. The soundtrack included on Disc 2 is great as well...the DTS HD master audio tracks sound AWESOME, very equivalent to SACD level audio output from my sytem!

Simple straightforward movie that was pretty interesting, I liked it...

I'm on my Christmas-NewYears week off and I had a chance to watch this flick. All I can say is WOW The soundtrack is simply stunning with excellent use of surrounds and the LFE made me wish for a subwoofer that could dig into the low 20s. My poor old PSB Subsonic5 just can't dig as deep as the bass that is contained in this movie's soundtrack. (Well I know what my next upgrade to my system is) . The video section was also vet clear and detailed. The story was easy to follow and I liked its twists and turns.

I think the most impressive aspect of the movie is that storylines are simultaneously occuring on up to 4 (5?) levels of reality at different time scales, and the movie is still perfectly easy to follow. That is damned impressive.

Very good writing. As with anything I'm sure it has its haters. But I appreciate what it does very much.

just watched the blu ray...

volume was at -8 and it managed to get my j2500 to clip-light on the LFE

I need a second sub and amp for this movie

Wow, the 5.1 dts-ma isolated score on DISC 2 is STUNNING! I really hope it's not too much longer before the studios try to release a few rock/pop titles like this, not just the ones we have from Tom Petty, Trent Reznor, Neil Young, etc., which are all artist-driven.

SDDS has used discreet 7.1 tracks on movies going back over 10 years. The Fifth Element was done in 7.1 SDDS and until late last year when I saw Tron2 in a private IMAX cinema in Canada that is NEVER open to the public, it held my personal opinion record as best sound ever in a cinema, the now torn down Uptown Cinema 1 in Toronto which was the darling of the TIFF and 70mm capable. What a travesty it's gone.

Anyway, TS3 might be the first to use the additional rear speaker configuration, whereas SDDS uses two additional FRONT channels, but 7.1 SDDS is still 8 discreet channels.

AFAIK, studios are releasing BD Audio titles, but 90% of them are classical. I hope that format takes off as well.
