Iron Man 2 Blu-ray Review

That was one of the things that was ridiculous about that scene. That is a 5000lb car with a lot of horse power. It would have cut him in half. That isn't even the thing that bothered me about that whole sequence. The street car on the track going the wrong way? NOT. The first car that came around the corner would have hit them.
I agree with the Rolls/Bentley not cutting him in half from the torso down being ridiculous, but I believe it is possible for the Formula One cars to miss Happy in the Bentley -- at least one or two cars -- if someone is an awesome driver, and there's time to manuever.

Even though Ivan was in a slow section, there is NO WAY he would have been able to hit those cars on their noses with the whips while they were at any kind of speed. Where he hit Tony's car, I would have expected his feet to be missing...
Well, as much as I love keeping things in cinema as real as humanly possible, there has to be a bit of give here, as well as some Suspension of Disbelief -- it is a comic book adaptation, after all, and it's fun with these projects to just kind of go with it at certain times, namely during high-excitement fight sequences. The fact that NOTHING happened to Stark after being flipped into the air repeatedly, crashing into a thundering ball of fire, save for some scratches on his face, was completely and utterly unrealistic -- I was in a head on crash with a drunk driver that totaled the car me and my now wife were in, and I was injured VERY badly, so there's no way anyone could have walked away with the "injuries" or scratches he sustained after that flip...

Out of place, but funny. I agree, it didn't fit with the rest of the tech, especially if they are supposed to be a firm that is trying to compete with Stark.
Moreover, the first time I saw this, I didn't catch on to the fact that at the end when Rhodey and Stark are facing Vanko and Rhodey exclaims "I got somethin' for this guy...I'm gonna bust his bunker with the ex wife..." based on what Hammer told him and then shoots the little missile which bounces off Vanko's suit, that this was actually a nod to the fact that Hammer's weapons were completely useless in action anyway...

They know their audience, for the most part, aren't that intelligent so it doesn't need to be perfect ;)
Well, this is kind of vague and a bit on the condescending side, even if I do agree that some measure of disbelief must be applied when going into films like these...can you tell me which audience isn't "that intelligent"?

Most likely because the bass is loud, but not extremely low?
At times, it seemed to be both -- but it may not have reached into the ultra subterranean region of, say, something like the DTS mix of Jurassic Park III does...:eek::eek:

I told my wife the same thing about the whip. The speed would have made this almost impossible. The same thing with cutting the cars with the whip. His leg would have been toast and totally exposed when he wrecked after the incident. No such thing as wasted space in a Formula 1 car.
I think we can all agree about the race scene being ridiculously exaggerated and impossible in terms of how he survived the flip, let alone walked off with a scratch bleeding on his face...and with both legs!

Like I said, you could go on and on about the inacccuracies.
Indeed we can, but as I said, sometimes some leeway must be given during these projects to just let us in to the comic world the filmmakers are trying to introduce.

Stealing his suit was another farce. With proper software, activation would have been impossible without proper authorization or password.
This was something that hasn't been discussed or analyzed yet in these rounds; indeed, as Fury said to Stark, if the room containing the suits were encrypted, how could Rhodes simply have "stole" the suit and flown off with it after that ridiculously cheesy birthday party sequence? (BTW -- that scene reminded me bitterly of the stupid, unnecessary part of Spider-Man 3 with Parker in the jazz club; whatever) Are we lead to believe he just punches in a code that overrides the encryption sequence Stark embedded? The sequence just happens so fast, though, that the excitement of watching the two suited iron figures duking it out swept audiences off their feet -- I think Favreau was just trying to rush the "War Machine" element in here, and that's what happened...

Just got done watching it, and I pretty much agree with everyone else, the plot was thin, but the action was great. The video was great, the audio was stellar, and the bass was ridiculous, but the ultra took it with no problem.

Hey Glocks!

Thanks for checking in and giving your thoughts, my man!

Well, I agree to a point here -- as "thin" as it was in some places (the elements we have been discussing), I think it worked as far as a sequel went. Favreau did everything right in this regard -- upping the action, introducing a new supervillain, etc.

but the action was great.
Indeed...

The video was great, the audio was stellar, and the bass was ridiculous, but the ultra took it with no problem.
In-DEED...:D :D :D ;)

Although I thought the audio was better than the video...

yeah, but that doesn't mean it was just an action driven movie. Likeable and fun characters can make a mediocre plot into a good movie even if you ignore the action.

I never said I didn't like it, I liked it very much and can't wait to watch it again... I was really hoping for more of a fight near the end between Iron Man and the character that Mickey Rourke played, but it was still a great movie and hopefully there will be an Iron Man 3.

Finally saw this this last weekend. I watch movies mostly for their entertaiment value and don't nitpick too much. I would categorize the film as a good thrill ride and liked it better than the first. 4 stars

In the final fight sequence -- which you know every comic adaptation requires -- there was a duel between Iron Man and Whiplash (Rourke) with Rhodey as "War Machine" at Tony's side; this was something explored in the comics (that is, Rhodey and Tony "teaming up" like Harry and Peter did at the end of Spidey 3) and I believe Favreau was just testing the waters with this, so to speak...he wanted to kind of hint at the teaming up, and so he had the two of them take on Whiplash at the end, which I thought was cool.

But what I didn't like was just how "indestructable" Rourke seemed to be in his suit with the energy whips -- I mean, neither Rhodey's suit nor Tony's could even damage Rourke's, and I thought this was a bit corny. It took the combined strength of Iron Man and War Machine suits and their palm-oriented laser weapons to bring Rourke down, when Tony's high tech suit alone should have been enough (in comic world).

What would have been really cool is if Favreau had Stark save that special high tech "red laser slicer" weapon he used to carve through the Hammerdroids for the fight with Vanko (Rourke) and had Iron Man slice Vanko in two...

Glad you finally got around to seeing this, 'Rat (you hadn't seen it before this? I thought you said you did earlier in this thread...)...

Interesting that you liked it better than the first -- I think I may have, as well.

My Grand Son and I just watched the movie...... sound track was great.
My rear speakers were showing their stuff. My Grand Son was turning around looking behind us for the rear sounds.:) I wish all the Bluray movies audio were made this good. 2012 is another Bluray that has great front to rear seperation.

Hey, LAB...

Welcome to Audioholics, and thanks for your input and comments on Iron Man 2. Indeed, I agree regarding this Blu-ray's soundtrack; the DTS-HD Master Audio mix was rather aggressive, especially in the LFE department. And how about that Monaco Grand Prix sequence, when the cars are whipping into the surrounds as they pass on the track, and Whiplash's energy lashes when they hit the ground and deliver wallops of bass?

I saw 2012 in theaters, and I'm normally a Roland Emmerich fan, but this was just way too long and utterly depressing -- first of all, the Mayan calendar says nothing of the sort regarding "the end of the world" taking place in this year. I just couldn't bring myself to buy the Blu-ray when it came out, because I couldn't see myself sitting through this film again.

Did you watch Iron Man 2 on your 55" screen?

Thanks for the "Welcome" .... yes we watched the Iron Man 2 Bluray on our 55". It's in a small 20X20 den with low ceiling and carpet. Pop's old Cornwalls are about 9' away from the center of the sofa:)front L&R as are the rear speakers.

2012 we rented, as I had read the sound track was like Iron Man 2 . It was, the glass building falling and shattering glass came right at you and went thru and behind to the rear speakers. It is worth a look on Bluray as the special effects are Great. Hurt Locker has the best bass when the I.E.D. bombs go off. My wife had to go shopping to get out of the house, as I was shaking her plates in the kitchen.(expensive movie)

I have just now installed my late Dad's speakers in my den and liked the Cornwalls so much I purchased all the other Klipsch surround speakers WOW in this small room my entry level subs shake the room. I was suprised at how good my old DVD movies look and sound thru my system. I have the Bluray HDMI to the HD Onkyo.. read over here to do this..;) I am 60 now and really enjoy my system. Just hope I don't go deaf. :D This is a great site to exchange ideas and just learn more about music.

I saw the film in theaters, and while I'm sure the soundtrack was ridiculously loud and aggressive, I don't think I could sit through it again. To me, this was one of Emmerich's weaker works.

I'm assuming the mix was in DTS-HD Master Audio?

Wow -- you're wife actually left the house because of the LFE? My wife woulda just yelled down at me to turn it down...

I am sorry to hear about your dad -- I lost my dad a few years back, and my wife's just passed of lung cancer weeks ago. Yeah, HDMI has been great through my system as well -- one cable to carry audio and video from my Blu-ray player to my Onkyo receiver. Are you running it the way I do -- that is, one cable from your source to the Onkyo, and then a second cable from the Onkyo's HDMI OUT to your 55" display for video transfer?

Then that's the correct setup -- unless...is your TV 3D ready/capable?

Thank you for your father in law condolences to me; well, if your dad lived to 90, there's really nothing that can be complained about...at all!

I just lost an aunt last night.

Sorry for the tread jack. I will PM Pearlcorder next time.
No worries -- no jacking accusations here!
