..and don't think she is the only one.

"As children of the Depression, Marie and Cliff Long lived frugally and invested wisely. Cliff died in 2003. Madelon and Jenette are Marie's sisters.

Jeanette said her sister had about $1.3 million saved up - enough to last the rest of Marie's life - or so the couple thought.

With Marie in declining health, there were no children. Her daughter died of cancer at age 16, and her son died in Vietnam.

To make decisions on her finances and care, the court appointed a guardian - an agency called "The Sun Valley Group".

First, as Guardian, Sun Valley's owners Peter and Heather Frenette hired themselves to provide Marie's personal care. That way they collected not only guardian fees, but up to $15,000 a month in companion care fees, too.
...
Today, Marie is 89 and now lives on Medicaid at taxpayer expense. Sun Valley withdrew as her guardian twelve days after her money ran out."

And that was just the beginning. Read more of the court sanctioned rape of our elderly by our legal system here

Merry Christmas...

the "court" was in the pockets of "The Sun Valley Group".

there should be an investigation. but, of course, there will not be.

"rape" is the correct word.

Yes why not give more power to the government to rape and murder people. I am pretty sure the corrupt judge was part of the government not a free judicial market.

From the homepage of the apparently still operating "Sun Valley Group"

"The Sun Valley Group, Inc. is a Licensed Professional Fiduciary Service designed to meet the needs of the incapacitated population. Our business is a vocation of compassion and caring, meeting clients' needs with consideration and dignity. Using a multidisciplinary team, we are able to create a plan of care that provides support for our client's physical, social, emotional and mental health needs while allowing our clients as much autonomy as possible.

Licensed fiduciaries act by court appointment (guardian, conservator, trustee, personal representative) and as agents under powers of attorney. Being someone's fiduciary can be far more complex than just accounting for an individual's financial situation. The work can range from assessing the needs of the client, selecting a new home, estate recovery, buying furniture and arranging for caregivers; to managing investments, controlling visitation schedules among warring family members and handling burial arrangements.

Our estate and accounting staff have extensive experience in financial matters, including banking and investments, real estate, forensic accounting and daily asset management".

I'd doubt that the court had any idea of what might or did happen and appointed this group from a list of licensed services.

Wonder how many times those people got away with their scheme undetected. If the subject dies, or had this 'Marie' died before her money was exhausted then Sun Valley's services would simply no longer be needed and the case would be closed without even an informal audit. At age 89 the odds were in Sun Valley's favor and had they simply continued to 'care' for Marie without pay until she croaked nobody would have been the wiser. Their mistake is in notifying the court that they were no longer being paid because they'd swiped all that was available to swipe.

Gotta' love those charges to "confer" - especially the conference about the fire they started.
