That is rather awful looking. I've always been interested in these speakers though. Let us know what you think if you get them!

Yea I wouldve bought a pair if they were anything BUT the walnut lol. I think theyre hideous
indeed. but you can put a coat or 2 of polystain on em and i bet they would look pretty good.

I've seen and heard these before and the walnut actually looks quite good in person; they look more like marble than wood. And the sound they produce is excellent! At $129 a piece, I had to buy a couple :D

Thought it was burled Maple... not walnut.

Anyway... I've seen some pics of them in someone's room, and they look quite a bit different than the stock pics at Vann's.

Kind of like the stock pics of the Energy RC cherry finish Vann's had... Vann's pics of the OMD-5 don't really do the actual finish any justice

I'm currently running a pair of these as rears and ABSOLUTELY love them! Best way I can describe them is, LIFE LIKE. You seem to forget there's a speaker there. The sound they emit is just so realistic. Very cool for surround effects. :)

Only difference is mine our rosewood. :D

Vanns just lowered the price for the Rosewood and Gloss Black finishes to $149 per speaker.

I drove them with a simple Denon receiver so that Teac should do fine.

These would probably go great with my M3SIs as surrounds, but would I be able to mount them, upside down, to the ceiling very easily?

Yes sir! That's the way I have them mounted. If I remember right the manual actually calls for them to be mounted upside down when being placed higher than 6 or 7ft high. :)

How do you have these mounted as rear speakers? I can't wall mount my rears. I want to use them on 30" to 36" stands and place them behind my couch. I like the fact that the tweeter fires up rather than being directed toward my ears.

I have them mounted upside down on the side walls. They're about 8ft. up the wall. :)

Wow, I wish I had a room layout that allowed me to wall mount.

Did you ever try them on stands? As I mentioned in a previous post, I'm going to have to place mine on tall stands. Does the tweeter fire straight up, up on an angle, or straight ahead towards the listening position? I'm askin because it looks like the tweeter can be aimed in different directions.

Never used them on stands, sorry. Also the tweeter is fixed and cannot be moved. Hope that helps. :)

The information you provided is very helpful. I decided to get some 32" stands for the speakers and locate them behind my listening position. Since the tweeters are firing up, I think this will help create a better surround effect than my Energy RC30s.

The speakers are sitting in Chicago at the moment and I'm not going down for 2 more weeks:(

I'm sure that will work out nicely. Now for the hard part, the wait. ;)
