GAPLESS !!! Flac-Support via USB and Net would be great. Here in Europe there are much possibilities to download legal flacs (classical shop, hyperion, linn), most of all equipment besides PC´s and some real expensive networkplayers cannot handle it gapless as far as I know, a real pity

No analog stereo out

Re the following statement by OPPO from the article..." For now, users can use the built-in bass management to fold the 7.1 analogue audio signal down to stereo for use in a Zone 2 setting, for example."
What exactly does this mean? I wanted a BDP83 primarily for the highly rated stereo audio playback as I only have room in my set-up for a single player. Alas, I waited too long. Absolutely no interest in 3-d, though the streaming will be a nice addition. Would have gladly paid a little more to have the stereo analog out in the new model...

Well, it means that you can still get stereo output with the BDP-93. You will need to set the audio output to stereo (the "Downmix" setting on their earlier players), and the left and right channels will be a true stereo output while the other six channels are ignored.

I wish every player gave the option of setting gaps from 0 (gapless) to 5 seconds. But all I've seen stick you with a gap.

Seems kind of surprising they don't have the product out even this close to the Christmas season. Methinks they're playing with fire by delaying it this long. Do we have an update on release date?

I just ordered mine. Says it'll ship on Monday 11/22. :)
Yes, I got the email from them offering a pre-release model (firmware will need updated). Undecided if I want to jump.

Just how drastic is the difference here? Has anybody done an objective comparison of the 83 and 83SE audio sections?
I upgraded from the 83 to the SE. The difference in the analog performance is easily heard.

I talked to them the yesterday and they said there would not be an upgrade path from the 93 to the future model; they will be separate products.

Although this works to get analog stereo output via the 7.1 outs, it's not very practical. Frankly it's a PITA to do, given the downmix option is buried in the menu system.

I have an Oppo 983H + a Panasonic BD60 BDP. As you know, the 983 lacks dedicated stereo outputs. For zone two use, I have to set the audio to downmix. the problem here is the downmix is also applied to the HDMI audio, so when I want to use the 983 in my main HT, I have to go back into the menu and set it back to 5.1, which gets old real quick. my solution.... I just use the Pan BD60 for my zone two use, as it does have dedicated analog stereo outs, and I leave the 983 to 5.1 for the Main HT. Too bad I don't get to enjoy the better VP of the 983 in my Z2 LCD.

My plan was to upgrade to an Oppo BDP and remove the 983 and Pan from my rack and get down to one player. There may still be hope for the Oppo 93 given it has two HDMI outs.

Can a user have one HDMI out going to the Main HT system and set to MC sound (5.1/7.1) and then use the second HDMI out to a zone two LCD, set to 2 CH stereo ... and retain the 5.1 audio setting of the main HDMI output? In other word, can downmix be applied to individual HDMI outputs on the 93?

I find it very shortsighted that Oppo chooses to omit dedicated analog stereo outputs on the 93 given this would solve my current system needs.

I too received the pre production release email from Oppo. Surprised to see they did not offer a price reduction to early adopters, considering the "test market" approach implied !

Considering Pre Release BDP-93's are selling for hundreds over the Purchase Price on Ebay and Audiogon, I do not think a discount is in order.

I have had a BDP-93 for a few Weeks and I have not experienced any issues so far. It really is a nice BDP.

Oppo has really never offered a discount on any model except maybe when they were already discontinued. The 83 and 83SE remained at the original price their entire run, and to be honest, the players are already a bargain.

I've had my 93 for about two weeks now. It's been great so far.

The remote is not great. I have to press buttons several times to get something to work. I use a universal remote anyway so this is not a big problem. I do like the fact that the remote has discrete power buttons. This made it easy to get the universal programed.

I hope to see Hulu Plus and Pandora on this box so I can loose the Roku. Netflix has been working well.

I am in total agreement about the Remote Control and have not used it at all as a result. The Remote Control from my Onkyo works far better. Such that it seems to be the Remote itself, I fear that Firmware Updates might not be able to address this issue.

Even if the Remote cannot be made to Function better, I would never consider returning it. The Juice is well worth the Squeeze.
Cheers,
JJ

Now that the first firmware upgrade is available, how is your -93 working? Some individuals seem to think the remote operates better/faster, but I haven't noticed any difference in that regard. My problems with HDMI1 have all gone away so I'm pretty much a happy camper.

Oppo's marketing strategies are puzzling. They delete their previous models while not having new models available to replace them. That essentially puts the company out of the Blu-Ray player market indefinitely.
And their apparent decision not to offer any further firmware updates to previous models sends a chilling message to anyone considering buying the company's next generation models, when and if they become available:the day when those models are deleted, there will be no parts support or firmware updates anymore.
The company seems like a fair weather friend to the people who have bought their products. It is unprofessional.

The key word here is "apparent". Who is your source? I sure hope it is not true otherwise it is a shame because even Samsung can do better. It has been long and few in between but at least my P2550 has been getting updates once a year or so.
